Food Scene

Open Tuesday to Sunday, Jin Jin is tasty and fresh Asian fusion. They also make delicious refreshing cocktails. I would recommend booking in the height of summer, otherwise you should be able to get a drop in table.

My absolute favourite bakery! Visit around 3pm and you might be lucky to get two for one loaves of their amazing bread (if they haven’t sold out). Try a lemon curd croissant (amazing!!). Also fantastic coffee.

Arts & Culture

The beauty of the restaurant building and surrounding grounds at Brick Bay Wines almost takes your breath away. Open daily for delicious lunches fashioned from fresh produce from the farm, orchard and gardens, complemented by locally sourced fare. All carefully crafted dishes and platters are designed to match Brick Bay’s classic aged wines. This is one of the not-to miss treats of the region, especially in conjunction with a walk through the outdoor sculpture trail, winding through bush, vines and fields.

When Sandra and Anthony Grant started their collection of glass and quirky sculptures more than 10 years ago they had the glimmer of an idea to create an arts centre, Sculptureum, in the midst of their vineyard on the Omaha Flats. It is now a drawcard to the area and their restaurant, Rothko, perfectly balances fine food, wine and art. In the kitchen, chef Jarrod Mcgregor cooks splendid lunches with local and foraged ingredients, and his shared platters of long slow-cooked meats are beautifully presented. For lighter eating there are fresh salads, simple dishes and fruit-based desserts.

Arrive early and wait by the fire on the comfy couches. Peek in and look at the rose covered ceiling in the left hand theatre if you can (so beautiful!).

Absolutely worth the trip! Drive through the predator proof gates into the bird sanctuary and you can walk to Anchor Bay - exquisite soft white sand, gorgeous little caves and rock pools and lovely clear water for swimming. You may even see a Takehe (a very large rare NZ endemic bird) if you are very lucky.
