Hamburgs first zero waste café. Be environmentally awesome and eat a deliciously healthy breakfast before you hit the flea market right in front of the café on the weekends. Say hi to the founders Alina & Ina from me.

Did you know that we have a huge Portuguese community in Hamburg? Sternschanze area is full of Portuguese restaurants and cafés, they also have their own district at the harbour called Portugiesenviertel, this fish restaurant is one of the good ones, cheap and big, you always get a table, they will make sure you get a seat in the sun and can watch football if there is an important match going on.

The Elphi is Hamburgs pride, it took forever to build it and cost a fortune but it hosts world-famous musicians and our own marvellous Elbphilarmonie Orchestra. If you have a change to buy tickets for the big concert hall, do go for it (last minute tickets are sometimes available, the best chances to get a last minute ticket are for morning or midday concerts), visiting the view platform is worth it anyways even without a concert ticket.

Arts & Culture

If you want to know more about Hamburg and its history (did you know we were party Danish at some point?? And did you know our humour is often compared to the British sarcasm?? yeah yeah, I guess we Germans aren´t as humourless as it seems) - visit our Hamburg history museum, its a pleasant stroll away from my apartment through the beautiful Park of Planten un Blomen (which means plants and flowers).

My favourite exhibition space for arts and photography. If you are in to Japanese cuisine you might want to check out the family run restaurant Daruma just behind Deichtorhallen. Do not expect anything but lovely and loud Japanese owners from Kansai area ( they are much more cheerful than the ones from Tokyo area) and authentic pub cuisine such as handrolled sushi, Tempura, meat skewers and Japanese beer and sake. Nothing fancy but super down to earth authentic and yummy Japanese street food!
