Food Scene

1/2 block from the apartment. Very convenient! And kind of nice too. Coffee, good breakfast and lunch. A few beers on tap. if the line is long in the morning (especially likely on weekends) yo may want to move on, like maybe to Charlie's at the other end of the park. And besides, walking through the park can be very nice.

A bit cheaper than the Precita Park cafe and if there is a line at the Precita Park cafe then it is worth it to walk across the park and go here. It is defintely cheaper than the Precita cafe but the quality may suffer a slight bit.

Very good restaurant. Not so cheap and you may need reservations. Plenty of other places to choose from all around this area.

The restaurant is good but there is a very cool cafe down the hallway on the side of the building. It has an outdoor seating area that can be a rare find. Good on a sunny day for breakfast.

A very basic Taqueria. But it is sooo good. And also close to some great bars and other Mission street stuff. I always (almost) get the super chicken burrito. You have to get a 'super'. You just do...

Go across the Golden gate bridge and take the first exit on the right. Up the hill, etc. Yes, you need a car for this. But, if heading north it is a good stop. Super-cool old WWII gun barracks to mess around with. Cliffs, amazing views. I love this place!

I love this place and not enough people go there, which is likely a good thing. Many other great things to do as is near Chrisy field and GG bridge, etc. A small drive from my place but worth it!

Essentials

This place is 1/2 block from my place. Go out the door and take a right. The owner is a great guy but I only use it for essentials. They have beer, cheap wine, chips, shampoo, etc. For a classy corner store go across the park to Harvest Hills market. Great wine, produce, some cheeses, crackers, etc. Pretty great selection for a tiny place over there.

A little pricey but on a great street across 'the hill' (that's Bernal Hill). Good for essentials and also sandwiches and meet, etc. A grocery store.

A serious grocery store. But it can be a hassle as it is always busy and not so nice. But if you must.. here you go. Harvest Hills market or Good Life on Cortland might be a better (although likely more expensive) and mellower choice.

Somewhere between a convenience store and a grocery store. Excellent selection of beer and wine with good refrigeration (unlike Sam's on my corner). Snacks, cheeses, crackers, some meat, great produce. A little pricey but really quite good stuff.

Drinks & Nightlife

I love this place! Free (although they would like a donation o the hat they pass around) music from a Hammond B-3 that is built into the bar. They play live Jazz on the organ usually accompanied by a sole guitar. Dark, eclectic, romantic. Good drinks! And when not playing live music they'll spin some records. No album newer than 1973. Live music guaranteed Wednesday through Sunday. Sundays'a re special when the owners sister, Lavay Smith (Semi-famous of her own accord) sings with her husband Chris on the keyboard. All live music is usually from 8 or 8:30- 10 or so. Enjjoy!

A very cool, old-timey bar. Very lesbian friendly and friendly in general as well. Purportedly, that is Janice Joplin's pool table that you walk past when you come on in. Amazing, overgrown backyard. Great for a daytime beer or two. Kind of divey, but cool!

Eclectic, fun bar. Free Hammond organ music almost every night and on Sundays the wife of the keyboardist sings Billy Holiday. Fun! Can be crowded on weekend nights.

Everything Else

This is part of the Hispanic section of town and it is really cool. Very mixed. Tons of great food, bars, shops, etc. Equally distant than Mission street from my place, both of these destinations, Mission street or 24th, have a lot in common although I prefer Mission street a slight bit more.
