Nike Started in Springfield

Eugene typically gets the credit for the Nike brand — but Nike’s running shoes were first developed in Springfield, Oregon. Olympian and University of Oregon Track Coach Bill Bowerman actually refined the first famous running shoe in his garage in Springfield, using his wife's waffle iron. In 1964, Phil Knight helped sell Bowerman's innovative shoes out of his van.
