Parks & Nature

There are numerous walks,a forest park, the nearby New Galloway Forest Park (NB The Merrick) , many coastal stretches particularly Brighouse, Carrick, Kirkcudbright, Auchencairn,Kippford, Forest walks, The Caerlaverock bird reserve, Loch Ken with its bird population and the red Kite trail with the feeding station only 3 miles from here.

A new state of the art gallery has just opened. Small but it houses a collection of art from the Glasgow school of artists who based themselves here in the 20th Century :- Jessie M King, Oppenheimer, EA Taylor, Hornel and many others. There is an unusual number of artists abd craft makers in this area and there are several event on every year to show case their work. eg an art trail on 3-6th August 2018

Iron age building has been reconstructed here. Also a centre of christianity with exhibits related to the ongoing archaeological dig. The lighthouse at Drummore is a bit of a drive away but an excellent destination - lighthouse, walks and cafe with views out to sea over the cliffs.

and the Cream o Galloway Ice Cream factory are both very close to Ringford (about 10 minutes and 20 minutes respectively). Ecellent for children . Cream o Galloway has the best and most varied outdoor equipment and rides. Laggan (15 minutes) for older children and adults Dalscone is another childrens paradise 30 minutes away at Dumfries. Excellent for rainy days In the summer there are many events on in the area particularly in Kirkcudbright eg Scottish nights (July), arts trail (August), jazz festival (usually June), farmers markets etc Also local agricultural shows. Gatehouse (10 mins) has a Mill with local history and model of the planned town Many golf courses in the area
