Food Scene

A gourmet cash only sandwich shop. Draconian no-substitutions policy, but you won't care once you take a bite into one of their sandwiches. My favorite is the veal hoisin meatball, but all are great

Few restaurants marry a hip, fun aesthetic with truly excellent food; Pipa is such a place. Great for date night or for dinner with some friends. Beware the strength of the sangria!

A neighborhood staple, The Coffee Shop is known for its invariably stunning waitstaff more than its food and beverage. Open 24 hours, this is the 'diner' to choose of all the ones in the area.

An excellent and en vogue venue for a pre- wild night meal. Make sure to call ahead in advance for a reservation and ask to be seated outside if the weather is agreeable- fantastic people watching.

Grungy yet authentic, The Grey Dog has a loyal following. Beers on tap and an unpretentious menu make this a great place to grub after a long day of exploring the city.

A West Village favorite, they don't take reservations, so if you're in the area, put your name down in advance. You won't regret it. I often wake up Sunday morning craving their bloody mary.

Everything Else

When in New York, you must eat a New York bagel. Murray's is the gold standard. Often it gets busy, so be prepared to wait. Their fully loaded lox bagel cures even the most harrowing of hangovers.

The Standard Hotel is a Meatpacking staple. In the summer months, enjoy the Biergarden and the beautiful clientele. In the winter, the skating rink is a wonderful place to embrace your inner child.

Essentials

Sure, Whole Foods is nearbye, but Garden of Eden puts the grocer giant to shame. International offerings, impeccable produce, and a cheese counter to rival a cheesemongr's. Pricey, but worth it.

Shopping

Not technically in my neighborhood, but if you're fun & fashionable (and get paid in euros, pounds, or any other currency beating up on the dollar) you have to check this place out.

Drinks & Nightlife

My favorite bar in NYC. Odd entrance, beautiful interior, great view, expert mixologists. No parties over 4 admitted. Often a wait as no rezzies. Arrive right at opening at 6:00pm to be whisked in.
