A 12-15 train ride from Hanwell to Paddington where you can stroll along the Canal locally named 'Little Venice'. Australian cafe that does delicious brunch and smoothies. Let me know if you visit Paddington as I can give you some more places to visit for a small walking tour.

Go before 12 (best is 10-11 as some things sell out) for baked goods, bbq sausages in bread, fresh bread, fishmongers, butcher, organic produce and some pretty tasty tomatoes from the Isle of Wight. On the same road is an Iranian bread shop where you can see them making fresh Iranian bread and that is all. There is sometimes a line with people coming from all parts of London. It is worth the visit as the bread is delicious and fresh.

This is a very popular Indian community which has resulted in amazing food and the feeling of being transported to another place. Worth a visit if you have a fondness for Asian cuisine.

Grab a Sunday roast after a walk along the canal. A nice local haunt with a large beer garden but is equally cosy inside.

Interested in Engineering? This Victorian marvel is mind boggling. Enjoy a walk along the canal towards this passing the 8 locks that let the canal boats through. If you might even be able to catch a boat navigating through.

Another Engineering marvel which can be reached via a lovely park walk starting from High Lane at the bottom of Studland Road. The Wharncliffe Viaduct is a brick-built viaduct that carries the Great Western Main Line railway across the Brent Valley, between Hanwell and Southall, Ealing, UK, at an elevation of 66 feet . The viaduct, built in 1836–7, was constructed for the opening of the Great Western Railway . It is situated between Southall and Hanwell stations, the latter station being only a very short distance away to the east. The viaduct was the first major structural design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the first building contract to be let on the GWR project, and the first major engineering work to be completed. It was also the first railway viaduct to be built with hollow piers, a feature much appreciated by a colony of bats which has since taken up residence within.

If you like walks this is a pleasant river and canal walk that can be done as a day trip to include a visit to Syon Park and House. Rich in history that includes the infamous King Henry 8th and his unfortunate wives.

Getting around

Getting around

I use City Mapper app for getting from A to B. Buses run from the top of the road (on other side) towards Ealing Broadway (E1) and West Ealing / Northfileds (E3). Walking to either can be done in 30mins. I generally walk to Hanwell Station. If I am in a hurry I go down Greenford Ave but if I have a bit of flexibility in time I take the park route at the bottom of Studland Road up High Lane. The Elizabeth Line runs from Hanwell Station from Heathrow, Windsor and other destinations into and through central London via Ealing Broadway and Paddington.
