A vibrant town of lovely old buildings and the famous cathedral, where Thomas Becket met his end at the hands of the knights of Henry II. An ancient place of pilgrimage as told in the Canterbury Tales. The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge is worth a visit and also houses the Tourist Information Office. A great town for shopping too. Then lunch perhaps at the historic cafe The Weavers, right by the river. There is a handy Park & Ride system for car parking.

Dover Castle is an excellent full day out. The castle sits on top of the famous 'white cliffs of Dover'. This clifftop castle has hidden World War Two tunnels which are a must. In the town itself, don't miss the Dover Museum with its Bronze Age boat and the Roman Painted House. Close by are Crabble Mill and pretty riverside Kearsney Abbey park with a nice cafe and children's play area.
