Best walks in the area.

Spectacular Dunnottar Castle There is a path from the harbour along the cliffs. It takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to walk there. A great way to work up an appetite for a meal at the harbour on the way back! Of course it is also possible to drive there.

For sure you will see thousands of seabirds. If you are lucky you will see Puffins. Take your binoculars and you might be lucky and spot seals and dolphins out to sea.

Food scene

Good beer and local seafood. There is a rustic bar or more formal restaurant. A good place to go after a walk along the cliffs at the nearby Fowlsheugh Nature Reserve. Artist Joan Eardley used to live in the village and there are some of her paintings in the Inn.

Johnshaven is about 15 minutes drive. There is a small harber to walk around and a Lobster Shop. I think its best to phone ahead and check they are open, and order if you want to be sure to get a lobster.

This is a wee caravan/trailer that sits on the harbour in the summer months. Serves modern seafood snacks, lunches wraps etc to take away. Its a romantic idea to eat them on the pier but watch out - you may be attacked by seagulls.
