BBQ

Great place for BBQ. Burnt ends are a recommendation. It has won a lot of awards, and it holds up to its reputation of good food. Make a reservation if you can!

This place has great seating and lots of space. Reservation is not necessary, but helpful. Parking lot is spacious. Cheesy corn, cornbread, and the bloody mary with burnt end stuffed olives are great. Ribs are probably our least favorite here. Can't go wrong with any of the meat options.

Seen on Food Network and a reputation that holds up, this joint is excellent for KC BBQ. Don't let the gas station appearance throw you off. I did the first time and told my husband we weren't taking guests to eat at a gas station. Little did I know it's rated top in the country for BBQ. And it's legit (even for a sides fan rather than meat fan). No frills place. Be prepared to wait in line. Seating is limited, but the atmosphere and decor is cozy. There is a lot to see and read while you wait in line! Get the fries - the seasoning is awesome. Z Man was good, too. You order your food and then wait for it - no waiters.

Shopping

Great for shopping, grabbing drinks or food (McCormick & Schmidt's chocolate bag). Street parking can be challenging. Free in any of the garages. I always use the parking garage near Made in KC (great spot for local artists' products and gifts).

This a very KC thing to do. A great spot for Saturday morning with lots of vendors, food, all the things. Parking on Saturday mornings is free in most areas (if not all), and bring your walking shoes! Support some local farmers, artists, etc. Grab some spices or seeds to take home, and if you're in KC for a long stay, River Market is a great place for beautiful flowers.

Special, beautiful, and unique experience for both the history buff and not. There is a lot to see and do in here, so check it out online to read more and make a plan if that's your thing. If you'd like to experience the whole museum, arrive early and prepare to spend a few hours there. It's worth it (I'm on the "not" side of history lover.). You have the best view of the city from there, too!

This one is on my list to visit. It's popular amongst KC residents and allows you to learn about KC's rich history of jazz.

A very KC thing to do. A great spot for the family, or even just the two of you. Oceans of Fun is also nearby, and a great water park.

Also near River Market. Good spot for hockey fans. Food and atmosphere are casual. A no-frills place to grab a burger, immerse yourself with locals, and watch hockey.
