Walk up past the waterfalls on to the lake. You can also continue on to the old disused mine. Brave souls wild swim in this lake too. Some of the land you will pass through still belongs to my family.

This is an iconic beautiful Italian inspired village, set on the edge of an estuary in Penrhyndeudraeth. Around 15 mins drive from the cottage, its a must sea for a tranquil walk and interesting architecture from eclectic visionary Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. There is a high end hotel here with pool and also a castle with a fine dining restaurant as well as small coffee shops and shops selling the famous Portmeirion pottery.

This dam is nestled in the mountains directly behind the cottage. You can't see it until you walk up to it- or walk along the power station lake causeway. Its lake feeds the HYDRO power station. Follow the road up to the upper village of 'Dolrhedyn' (behind Tanygrisiau) and instead of taking the right to the Cwmorithin mine walk, take a left up the tarmac path to the dam. This route is particularly amazing on a bike downhill, if you have the stamina. Amazing views from the dam.

This gorge is amazing! Its a simple walk from the car park, pay a £1 per person contribution and enjoy this spectacular marvel of nature. I like to sit here and just listen to the river flow. Some brave people kayak down this river too.

Cute little Welsh town nestled in the mountains. Famed for the tale about Gelert the dog and Prince Llewelyn. Great walks start from here, or simply grab a meal or drink in the pub or an ice cream or pizza by the river.

This is a lovely seaside town. Its about an hour's drive from the cottage but if you are here for a week, the coastal drive is spectacular. A nice pub on the front called the Penghelig arms and also the train here goes all the way along the seafront to Pwllheli
