Although we typically like to avoid the big resort areas, whaler's village and Kaanapili Beach are exceptions. Great shopping restaurants, and a play area for kiddos makes this an ideal stop for adults and families alike. Excellent upscale restaurant options.

Take the scenic route and get here via the woods beside dragon's teeth. We found loads of coral and shells and it was a great open beach for everyone. Surf is not always gentle so maybe not the best swimming for novices.

A rocky outcropping shelters this beach and provides a natural baby pool. Great for littles and a must when heading north.

A secret (sorta) beach. This tiny hidden beach is unbelievably idyllic. The most beautiful beach I've seen. Surrounded by lava rock with some wild surf, this place has beautiful shady trees and incredible tide pools. Bring your slippers the rocks are sharp ( and so are the sea urchins)

May have to wait a minute for the table but being on the beachfront you'll easily forget it. Worth the wait, but best time is happy hour to get great deals and stay for sunset and live music.

Don't skip it, it's not a scary drive but do plan for the trip. Bring lots of water and snacks and be prepared to with a guide book. (Maui Revealed is the BEST) stop often, and just count the waterfalls on your way. Stop at Uncle Harry's for a snack.

Tough to park or find at first but worth the hunt and the short hike in. Nothing like it on the island. Really. Strong swimmers only. But come be a lookie-loo to those daring enough to cliff jump into this deep pool fed by the ocean
