Mousehole is a typical Cornish fishing village. Described by Dylan Thomas as "the loveliest village in England" Combine exploring the little gift shops with looking at the old stone cottages and spend some time on the two small beaches. There are lots of little cafes here for coffee, but if you get chance to go to The Old Coastguard with its friendly lounge area and garden.

A walk along Penzance Prom to Newlyn is an enjoyable day out. You can buy freshly landed fish from one of the many fish shops and there are some new boutique cafes that have just opened. Dukes Street Cafe is great and just opposite is an interesting antique shop selling all kinds of unusual objects. The Art Gallery in Newlyn is great and has some really interesting exhibitions. It also has a panoramic window in its cafe if you need a drinks stop. www.newlynartgallery.co.uk . You can see the fishing boats in the harbour. The Tolcarne Inn serves excellent seafood - owned by the chef Ben Tunnicliffe

St Ives is a favourite place to visit, but it can get ridiculously busy. Weekdays are a little quieter and going early is always a good plan. Full of lovely shops, bars and cafes and gorgeous beaches, its no wonder its popular. The Tate Modern and the Barbara Hepworth Museum are well worth a visit. We would suggest combining a trip to St Ives with a short train journey from the St Erth Park and Ride. Just a couple of miles from us you can park at St Erth station and catch the little train that goes to St Ives station. The train ride is really scenic running along the coast and runs regularly. Find out more at www.greatscenicrailways.co.uk The church at St Ives has some lovely features that are worth seeing.

Zennor is a beautiful place to visit. It is situated on the Penwith Moors and the drive to Zennor is also beautiful. You can walk around the Zennor Headland and see some spectular coastal scenery. Alternatively you can walk towards Gurnards Head and see the waterfall. The Church in the village is worth a visit as it has the ancient Mermaid's chair. The myth surrounding the mermaids chair is that the mermaid living in Penberth Cove seduces one of the chorister's - Matthew Trewhella into the sea. The Tinner's Arms offers welcome refreshment and has changed little since DH Lawrence lived in the village and drank there.

The Minack Theatre with its cliff top position is a great experience. You can book tickets to the museum and theatre and to see shows on their website www.minack.com. We once saw basking sharks circling in the sea during the performance and sometimes the sunset upstages the performers. It is a remarkable place built virtually single handedly by Rowena Cade.

I love the Old Coastguard. Its fabulous for food and drink . Sometimes a little wander around the village followed by coffee at the Old Coastguard makes for a great start to the day. Normally it has local art work exhibited on the walls and the views from the garden are amazing. I would suggest booking as it gets very busy www.theoldcoastguard.co.uk

City/town information

Penzance is a popular town. It has lots of quirky non chain boutique shops particularly along historic Chapel Street. My favourites include Mor Swimmy which celebrates wild swimming, also Fishboy Penzance a stunning clothing store. Lots of great cafes including the cafe at Jubilee Pool, and The Honey Pot It also has the famous Jubilee Pool and a long promenade - perfect for an early morning or evening stroll.

Leisure Activity

The Jubilee Pool is a fabulous restoration project of a 1935 Art Deco Pool - now fully restored. The main pool contains sea water which is 1-2 degrees above the sea temperature, but it also has a smaller geo-thermally heated pool that you can book tickets for. Tickets are available at www.jubileepool.co.uk There is also a lovely cafe onsite.
