Hiking

My favorite places to hike in the area!
Usually uncrowded, relatively flat hike in Glenwood Canyon that follows along Grizzly Creek. Would highly recommend for trail runners or families with kids as well, and there are areas to sit on rocks or benches and picnic. Cool to check out the burnt trees along the path from the Glenwood Canyon fire a few years ago.

The Storm King Fire ripped through the nearby mountains surrounding Glenwood Springs in 1994, and unfortunately killed 14 firefighters who bravely fought to keep it from the town. The town was saved, and the Storm King trail was established as a memorial hike to actually follow along their footsteps on that fateful day. It’s a 3.6 mile loop but with a pretty good elevation gain, so maybe not recommended for children or those looking for a more leisure hike. Definitely emotional but one of my favorite hikes, and stunning views. Can get very hot in summer with no shade, so take plenty of water!

One of the most gorgeous lakes I’ve visited in the valley, and a gorgeous hike the whole way to get there! It is about 5.4 miles one way (out and back) and there is a steeper section toward the end, but relatively easygoing trail that ends with the most crystal blue waters. Recommend for summer or fall, as the higher elevation will keep snow around in the spring. Don’t forget to pack a lunch and sunscreen!

Sightseeing

Peaceful, beautiful waterfalls up close with short hiking trails that lead to the top, and even to caves! Fun family event or picnic date. Be sure to check out the Rifle Fish Hatchery on the way there! Note: there is a small fee to enter the park.
