Drinks & Nightlife

One of Boulder's oldest brewpubs with a family friendly atmosphere and almost 2 dozen locally brewed beers (made onsite with add'l guest beers). We've been here more than any other single place in Boulder over the years. The endlessly friendly wait staff regularly offers free "mistake" food (oops!) and free "mistake" beers (wrong pour) to everyone in sight. You can dine at the bar, group tables, booths or on the patio overlooking the Boulder Foothills.

Parks & Nature

A gorgeous easy walking / biking trail about 15 minutes way with unbelievable views of the Boulder Foothills. This is part of an extended trail system that goes for miles and miles throughout Boulder County. We often take the dogs for 60-90 minute hikes on weekday mornings and rarely see more than a handful of other people on the trail.

Sightseeing

Although it's also a full-time research facility, NCAR is located at the base of the Boulder Foothills in a stunningly beautiful wilderness area. The building was designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei in 1961 and offer self-guided tours with kid-friendly scientific exhibits and several walking trails in the foothills behind the building. We've been here for countless field trips and late morning picnic breakfasts.

Shopping

Boulder's famous pedestrian mall has several dozen unique shops featuring handmade jewelry, kites, jig saw puzzles, sporting goods, workout gear and gem stones. Many of the stores feature work from local artists and international artists. There's a handful of chain stores (Cheesecake Factory and Starbucks come to mind) and Boulder brands (Crocs), but small, family owned small business are the big attraction here. Most afternoons and evenings showcase local buskers playing music, performing stunts or just plain entertaining the crowd.

Essentials

A full sized grocery store just a few minutes away from our house. You can easily walk or bike for small trips. The big plus is having *many* independent grocery stores in the areas (Lucky's, Alfalfas, Sprouts, Vitamin Cottage) along with a good sized Whole Foods about ten minutes away.
