Neighbourhood gem, visited by many local 'Christianhavners'. Nice service, good food, a 3 course menu with Danish specialities, affordable vine menu. White cloths on tables - but still down-to-earth.

When I want to treat myself and my guests to great meat/steak, I book a table at Asador - our local Argentinian restaurant. A bit pricy - but worth every "Danish kroner"!

My local sushi place. Buy a bottle of white at the local grocery store, get some takeaway at Letz Sushi, and enjoy your meal by the Canal. Perfect on a sunny summer evening...

The "free town" of Christiania has maintained the spirit of the hippie ages. You find arts & craft, eco/vegetarian cafés, houses built of whatever-the-owner-could-find, vast green recreational areas..

Our Saviour's Church with the spiraling staircase outside it's famous golden tower. Climb it, if you dare! Not for people with vertigo... Plus you get your day's worth of exercise; there are 398 steps to the top! A fantastic view of Copenhagen awaits the fearless - and breathless...

Nyhavn - or 'New Harbour' - is actually one of the oldest parts of Copenhagen's inner harbour. Its iconic houses in all the colours of the rainbow feature on most postcards from this wonderful city. Although a bit of a 'tourist trap', Nyhavn is still a must-see! Cross the new Inner Harbour Bridge, and you're at Nyhavn in less than 10 minutes on foot from my address.

Christiansborg - or short 'Borgen' - has reached a certain level of fame abroad, due to the popular TV-series of the same name, about the (fictive) first woman Prime Minister of Denmark. Interesting fact: Only a couple of years after the TV-series' release, we actually got the first ever female Prime Minister; Helle Thorning Smith of the Socialdemokrat party. Originally the impressive 17th century castle of king Christian IV, now this massive building houses the Danish Parliament. New feature: Visitors can now get entrance to the tower, where there is an observation deck (free entrance - but strict security check + lines can be long). There's also a newly opened lunch & dinner restaurant set in the amazing tower hall (reservation ahead is recommended - and you can then skip the line of the tourists only entering the tower for the view). 'Tårnet' restaurant is quite pricy - but worth it just for the historical atmosphere.

Parks & Nature

Kastellet is the remains of an old fortification system; now a beautiful park with the water moats and defense walls still intact. At the north end of Kastellet, on a rock in the harbor, sits the humble but beautiful statue of 'the Little Mermaid' - world known from storywriter H.C.Andersen's fairytale, and symbol of Copenhagen.

You find arts & craft, eco/vegetarian cafés, houses built of whatever-the-owner-could-find, and vast green recreational areas that stretch for a mile towards the north. I recommend you to stroll a bit away from the beaten track of 'Pusher street' with the stalls selling weed and joints & the touristy street market. Walk a bit further away, and experience the real Christiania where people actually live! The water filled moats and the grass-covered walls from the old defense system makes the whole area a huge park ... hippie style.

Essentials

My local grocery store 'IRMA' has the basics you need to make your own breakfast. Plus a very decent selection of fine wines, snacks, ready-made salads etc. Just across the street from my door. And the best thing: It is open every day of the week, from 9 morning to 9 evening.

Drinks & Nightlife

You want to have a beer or drink with the locals? Try the small, quaint and very local bar 'Eiffel' - on the other side of Christianshavn canal from my place. Extremely down to earth, reasonable priced drinks, laid-back people... Just like our whole neighborhood.
