Beautiful castle with landscaped grounds and lakes, recently had major refurbishment allowing for guided tours of castle, 15 min drive from town. A great place to do a day trip, kids playground, picnic tables and lovely cafe on site too. I would allow at least half a day to visit here but you could easily spend more time as there is also the agricultural museum with famine exhibition on site. Tours of castle should be booked in advance online, well worth doing.

Beautiful parkland with thousands of varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers, trees from every country in the world and also every species of native Irish tree. Named in honour of John F. Kennedy whose family came from nearby. A beautiful spot to spend a few hours close to nature, also houses interesting exhibition on the life of JFK and other exhibits about the trees and history of the arboretum. Nice kids playground and plenty of picnic tables nearby to enjoy along with coffee van serving refreshments. Just across from entrance to park is the trail to viewing point of Slieve Coillte (3 km hike) or short drive with car park at summit. Absolutely amazing views looking out over six surrounding counties, well worth the short drive or if you’re feeling energetic the hike up.

This is the oldest Marian pilgrimage site in Ireland and has been a place of worship since the 6th century. You can do the half hour walk around the lake on the path the pilgrimages follow and enjoy the beautiful views. Avondale House and Forest Park- birthplace of Charles Stewart Parnell, one hours drive from town. Along with the house and surrounding parkland visit the amazing Beyond the Trees treetop walk - I highly recommend this - elevated walkway amongst the tree canopy with beautiful views of surrounding Wicklow countryside and then ascend the viewing tower to take in the view from the top then descend by slide from the top! You could spend a whole day here, picnic tables on site also, book online in advance for Beyond the Trees experience and car parking.
