Food scene

Thai Rock has some of the best Thai Food in NYC. Not only is the food great, but the drinks, views of Jamaica Bay and live music really make it a fun experience. There can be long waits during season on weekend dinner hours, so plan accordingly.

Cozy local coffee shop that offers a variety of eats. Who needs Starbucks when a local mom and pop coffee shop has your daily dose of caffeine waiting for you. Of the Back Door Bacon Waffle is awesome.

The food in this place is wonderful. The menu has a wide variety of delicious dishes. Can take a while to get you food and food may not all come out together, but its part of the atmosphere of the place. It is usually lively and fun atmosphere with live music, and entertainment. No booze so BYOB.

Love this place! The owner Mike and his family are wonderful people and a staple in the neighborhood. The Gyros are delicious and made with real meat not processed stuff. The bowls are a good alternative to the gyro as well. They offer a fantastic lamb shank, a Greek Moussaka and many other tasty dishes. Also love their choice of hibiscus teas and lemonade.

Activities

Surfing is a major part of the Rockaway culture and Station RBNY is a great place to rent a board and wet suit. Go on and see Nigel the owner and inquire about lessons if needed.

Well since I was one of the founders and owners of the company I may seem a little biased, but no trip would be complete to the Rockaways without a visit to Rockaway Jet Ski. Zip along the waters of Jamaica Bay with a 30 Min Rental or take one of the special tours which is an amazing and fun experience.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Traveling Around Rockaway

During season, Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day parking can become more difficult in areas around the neighborhood; especially on weekends. I highly recommend walking since many resturants, supermarkets and shops are all very close. Biking is another way of getting around and can be rented at Boarders on the boardwalk or Rockaway Beach Cycles. There is also a car service on B92nd and Rockaway Beach Blvd.
Getting around

Traveling to and from Rockaway

In addition to driving traveling to and from the Rockaways offers guests many public transportation options. Ferry: Goes to and from Rockaway to Sunset Park Bklyn and Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan Subway: Rockaway Park A Train and Shuttle to Beach 90th St Holland Ave Buses: Q22, QM16, SBS Q52 & Q53
