City/town information

Rotterdam is a diverse, up-and-coming and modern little port City in The Netherlands. Not as easy going for tourist as Amsterdam, but once you get to know her you'll realise how much there is to see and do. Lots of people are moving from Amsterdam to Rotterdam for that reason. Looking for something different? Rotterdam is it.

Sightseeing

I love this place. From my apartment it’s a 5 minute walk. You'll come pass the cubical apartments, a little weird hallmark of Rotterdam’s architecture. The old harbour is easly one of the best places for drink in the afternoon or evening. Have a beer at the bar Stockholm and just relax in the sun while people come and go. Across the harbour is the ‘’white house’’. Yea not as flashy as in the US but historical non the less. For a time (pre-ww2) it was the highest office building in the world. Take that Dubai. It was almost shot to bits during WW2, you can still see the bullet holes. However,it survived the bombardment and it makes for a nice sight to behold today.

This hotel is not just a hotel, it host an awesome bar on the 4th floor only hotel guests and locals go to. I spend days up there admiring the views and having drinks, talking to all sort of people. It’s real nice and the view alone is worth the trip. TIP: take the water taxi from the old harbour, you won’t regret it.

The Sint-Laurenskerk, a nice place to do sightseeing and chill. The church was built between 1449 and 1525. Infront of the church is a little park where locals come together in the summer. I love to hang out here, reminds me of berlin.

My favourite park in town because its often not to busy and it has awesome statues and bridges and restaurants in it. The Dudok in het park is a nice little restaurant where you can get the best apple pie. There’s also a Michelin start restaurant here named ParkHeuvel. Prepare to whip out your wallet though because its quite expensive.

Food scene

Literally just around the corner, you can get the best sandwiches in Rotterdam. From my balcony you can actually see them in the morning preparing everything for the day to come. I always order a Carpaccio with truffle sauce, might fine.

Little V, amazing Vietnamese food and great cocktails. The place itself has looks awesome and it’s very popular, so I recommend reserving a table.

Right across the street you can find De Gele Kanarie. Order ‘’hoppie blond’’ here if you like fresh summer beer. It’s always full of interesting people and inside you can play shuffleboard. Food is also quite good. On Fridays it’s really busy so if you’re in for a good time make that you’re first stop.

The Market Hall is a famous architectural lite marketplace about 10 minutes by foot from my place. It’s nice to check out but be aware, once you’re inside everything is suddenly twice as expensive.

Nightlife

Want a taste of Rotterdam nightlife? Toffler is a techno club in an old metro station. The place is always packed on Saturdays and full of life. Don’t be surprised if you’ll see some drugged up folks though, this place doesn’t shut till the morning.

A amazing comedy club full of locals. Get yourself some tickets if you’re in for a laugh. Infront you can chill in a lounge chair on the docks and watch the ships roll by. Personal favourite.
