Goderich is the oldest Canadian light station on Lake Huron and first consisted of a pair of range lights established in the early 1830s. A contract for the erection of the current lighthouse was entered into in 1845 and called for the tower to be completed by July 1, 1846.

Goderich, Canada - October 14, 2013: Claimed to be the largest salt mine in the world, the Sifto owned salt mine on Lake Huron extends 3 KM under the lake to exploit ancient salt deposits. The mine is a modern facility located in the village of Goderich adjacent to the centre of town on the Maitland River. The photograph depicts the aboveground, extraction, salt handling and storage facilities of the mine. The Sifto Goderich salt mine produces a significant percentage of Canada's total salt production.
