A few places in the local vicinity worth visiting thanks to their outstanding natural beauty.
A great day walk easily accessed from Hillberry. Not too long, and the summit offers offers great views over the local area. Go early to get the clearest air - which will result in the best photos.

A short but beautiful walk in the heart of 'big tree country'. Huge Douglas Firs flank the path which leads to Ossian's Hall - a place of contemplation and reflection with a spectacular waterfall view. Definitely worth a visit.

The Loch of Lowes is run and managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. It encompasses a 130 acre reserve and is the nesting site to a pair of endangered Ospreys between April and August. One of the many lochs in the Lunan Valley and certainly worth visiting due to it's outstanding natural beauty.

Superb mountain top village with the claim to fame that it's the coldest place in the UK. Very beautiful journey through mountains and glens to get to this village. Balmoral Castle a few miles further on and worth a visit if you would like to see the Queen's summer home.

No snow in summer time, but worth a walk up the slopes to see spectacular views and see if you can spot a grouse in it's natural habitat. Tends to be very windy and cold even on the hottest day, be sure to have plentiful layers to avoid exposure. Very steep so wear good walking shoes.

If you're into driving, follow the Crieff road from Dunkeld to Amulree. You can either take a short trip by turning right just before Amulree and ending up in Aberfeldy - a lovely and affluent village in the Strathtay Valley - or you can pass through Amulree and take the single track mountain top road through Glen Quaich which will eventually land you near Kenmore. A long but spectacular journey.

A little look into the region's past. Crofters plots and stone dyke walls surround this historic village. You may wonder if anyone actually lives here - I've yet to see evidence of this. Quiet would be a suitable descriptive term of this quaint hilltop village.

Closest town with large supermarket (Tesco). On the banks of the River Ericht, nice walks up and down the riverside. Some hidden gems (small and quirky shops) in the back streets worth visiting, and a great second hand book store that may even yield a first edition if you have the time and stamina to dig through it's numerous volumes! Hardware store, bike shop, petrol stations and of course numerous pubs and bars. Also the access point to road which leads up to Glenshee (The Glen of the Fairies) and Braemar. Take a drive up the valley to explore this mountainous and beautiful region.

The sister village of Dunkeld, nestled alongside the River Tay, and the home of famed children's writer Beatrix Potter. Worth visiting the museum and local theatre - a number of interesting talks and presenters as well as local and international stage productions. A list of what's on can be accessed via their website. Also worth visiting is the Birnam Oak - an ancient and massive tree with a history that goes back hundreds of years.

The closest city. All the main shops, cinemas, hospitals etc are located in the historical capital of Scotland. A good place to stock up before your arrival, there is also an M&S at Inveralmond. The Tay flows straight through the city and still serves the old harbour. Definitely worth exploring, Perth offers a city experience in historic surroundings. A good art gallery and museum are also worth a look around.

One of our favourite villages in Scotland. A busy tourist hub, and the gateway to the Cairngorms. Lots of quirky shops, and a great buzzy street vibe most of the time. Good selection of pubs and restaurants and some spectacular views in and around Pitlochry. Take a trip to Queen's View for a rewarding and spectacular view on a clear day, or explore Loch Tummel and the surrounding wilderness by car, foot or bike. Good fishing in the lochs and rivers - trout permits can be arranged from the post office.

A hotel and restaurant in the hamlet of Meikleour, and an absolute must visit on a sunny summer's day. Or a chilly autumn evening. Or anytime you feel like a great meal. Sit under the trees in the garden and while away an afternoon with delicious local food and hand crafted ales. Always busy despite it's rural location so be sure to book ahead.

Delicious fresh seafood on the banks of the Ericht in an unusual setting. Owned and run by an independent seafood supplier with a good reputation for quality - worth a visit even if just for the langoustines.

Superb coffee and delicious baked goods in this somewhat out of place, hipster vibe cramped urban bakery in the middle of Dunkeld. They specialise in over-priced but delicious anytime treats. If you're lucky enough to be there when their erratic operating hours coincide with your visit, it's definitely worth rubbing elbows for.

Nice pub with outdoor seating and friendly local vibe. Adequate pub food. Live music in summer makes it a crazy place to try and have a conversation, one of the riverside tables is best to avoid excessive noise and you can get drinks from a satellite bar too. Great vibe, very popular with tourists too so fun to watch the world come and go.

Adventure, anyone? Rafting is the biggest pull here, but there are also a number of good eateries and an incredible chocolatier whose merchandise is sold most notably at Harrods. Take an Amex - the chocolate is not exactly cheap.

Did somebody say whisky? I cannot insist enough that if you visit this distillery, there are two bottles that you must leave with. 1. Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Single Malt 2. Dewars White Label (Blended)
