Recommendations for your stay at Sutton Cottage

Activities

Most of these recommendations are outdoors as there’s no point in coming to New Hampshire without enjoying the beautiful surrounding nature!
On your way into the cottage (5 min before you get there), you MUST stop by Schroeder Farm at 126 Sutton Road. We pick up fresh eggs from the farm every time we are there. Just grab the eggs in the vestibule of the white house across the street from the barn/fields, and leave behind $3 for every carton. You can also visit the animals at the farm and pick up farm-fresh goodies from the stand. More information here. https://schroederfarm.wordpress.com/

12 min away. One of our favorite walks/hikes, coupled with visiting the Fells Estate. The John Hay Ecological Trail - 1.5 mi - takes you alongside Lake Sunapee, then follows a river that loops you back to the main gate. We park by the Main House, walk through the gardens then go on the trail. There’s a fee for the Fells but it’s worth it! The refuge, when combined with The Fells property, includes the longest stretch of undeveloped shoreline on Lake Sunapee. Habitats include an expansive mature forest, a small meadow, shoreline on Lake Sunapee, and Minute Island, just off shore. https://www.fws.gov/refuge/john_hay/
