This can also be added to the High Road to Taos trip or a separate drive. Take the 84 out of Santa Fe - take the 503 towards Nambe, and then the 76 to Chimayo. I normally send people to Chimayo to see the beautiful and historic works of the Chimayo Weavers. Centinela Traditional Arts is 7 generations of Spanish Chimayo weaving. Irvin and Lisa Trujillo are recurring Spanish Market Top Award Winners. I just called and they are not allowing visitors. However, she said if you see something on their website that you'd like to purchase, you can pick it up directly from their shop in Chimayo if you'd like. Chimayo is also known for El Santuario de Chimayo. This shrine, a National Historic Landmark, is famous for the story of its founding and as a contemporary pilgrimage site. While it will be closed, I would still drive there and walk around it. People pilgrimage to the site annually and collect the dirt from the ground, which is said to be holy and healing. You could call ahead and order take-out at Rancho De Chimayo Restaurante. Family restaurant established in 1965. Old pueblo-style ranch offering traditional New Mexican dishes & outside seating. They may even be open for outside dining - you'd need to call. If you chose to do Chimayo as it's own half-day trip, I would drive back to Santa Fe through Espanola. There you could order awesome tacos and Mexican food at El Parasol for take-out.

Turquoise Trail NM 14, the historic Turquoise Trail links Santa Fe to Albuquerque. Drive the approximate 50 miles through the artsy hamlets Cerrillos, Madrid, and Golden. • Cerrillos - Check out Cerrillos Station, Casa Grande Trading Post, Turquoise Mining Museum. Eat, drink and catch a show at Black Bird Saloon. • Madrid - walk along the main road filled with shops and unique galleries. Catch a show at the Mine Shaft Tavern (a real, old mine).

56 mile scenic road that goes through stunning, traditional villages, and ends in Taos, NM. There is a lovely chocolate store in Taos, Chokola. I highly recommend stopping in there and indulging in their hot chocolate. Taos Pueblo is beautiful but check for COVID-19 closures ahead of time. From Taos I HIGHLY recommend you drive up to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. You can park on the side of the road and walk across. It's spectacular - you can spot Eagles on some lucky days. From the bridge I suggest driving through Carson National Park towards Ojo Caliente. Once you go through Ojo Caliente you can choose to head South back to Santa Fe or go a bit further North and drive into Abiqui, the home of Georgia O'Keefe. If you do decide to go into Abiqui, definitely keep driving about 20 minutes North and drive by Ghost Ranch. Abiqui Lake is also up there which could be worth stopping by. Make sure to look out in the horizon and admire Cerro Pedernal - made famous by Georgia O'Keefe in many paintings.
