Customs and culture

Respect Lake Superior and the shoreline cliffs

Please exercise caution when enjoying Lake Superior rock formations, cliffs and stormy shorelines. Too many lives have been lost testing the limits or simply trying to get a better picture. Lake Superior behaves like an ocean at times. Six inches of moving water is enough to sweep an adult off their feet. Sandstone cliffs are frequently eroded and undercut by the lake. What appears to be solid ground under your feet can crumble away in an instant. Be wise, stay safe and enjoy your visit!

Beaches

There are almost too many beaches in Marquette County to list! For maximum enjoyment at any beach be sure to check the wind direction for the beach you plan to visit. To avoid biting flies, visit beaches with wind blowing in from the water (offshore). Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following article on rip currents and how to escape them: https://thenorthwindonline.com/3865131/news/3865131/
