Historic Center

The Guatemala City officially recognized its Historic Center in 1998 and began to restore this important part of the city that had been neglected over the years. Today, it's a beautiful meeting point for local Guatemalans to eat, shop, and enjoy their days off. Most of the buildings in the historic center were built in the late nineteenth century and today historic colonial buildings stand side by side with modern establishments like galleries and cultural centers. You can't miss when you're in town! The historic center of Guatemala City is very attractive for its churches and monuments. The National Palace, like the Cathedral and Museums are a must. National Palace of Culture, built at the time of Jorge Ubico, has great architecture, it was previously the presidential palace and now it is a museum where you can see works of art and exhibitions marking the country"s history

Paseo Cayala is a livable, walkable development that offers everything you would want in a “city”; all securely protected by armed guards and security cameras, and surrounded by a ringed “moat” of white stucco walls. Guatemalan developers are building this nearly independent city for the wealthy on the outskirts of a capital marred by crime and snarled by traffic. At its heart is the 34-acre Paseo Cayala Guatemala, with apartments, parks, high-end boutiques, church, nightclubs, and restaurants. It’s bordered by even costlier subdivisions begun earlier. Eventually, the Cayala Management Group hopes to expand the project into “Cayala City,” spreading across 870 acres (352 hectares), an area a little larger than New York’s Central Park.

The Parque Zoológico La Aurora is a zoological park in Guatemala City. It is one of the largest gardens within the city. The zoo has three different areas, where animals from Asia, The Americas and Africa can be appreciated. The zoo was founded in 1924 in the southern part of the city, as part of a huge distraction area, then called Parque Reforma, featuring several museums, parks and a hippodrome. The remains of an ancient viaduct can be found in the park's vicinity.

The Relief Map of Guatemala (in Spanish: Mapa en Relieve de Guatemala) is a huge relief map of Guatemala erected at ground level on an approximate surface of 1,800 square meters inaugurated in 1905. It is unique and the only of its kind. It is considered a jewel and was declared National Cultural Patrimony in 1998. Great attraction for both nationals and visitors. The Relief Map has been remodeled twice: in 1980 by the Guatemalan Tourism Institute and with the collaboration of the Municipality of Guatemala City, and in 2014 by the Municipality of Guatemala City.
