Sightseeing

Located within Nakuru town, Hyrax Hill Museum depicts the lifestyle of seasonal settlement by prehistoric people at least 3,000 years old. The Museum is a former farmhouse ceded to the monument in 1965, by the Late Mr. A. Selfe. A small museum was opened here where artifacts from the Hyrax Hill site and other sites in the Central Rift Valley are displayed. https://www.museums.or.ke/hyrax-hill/

This is a good place to visit as a group. Great history to be learnt from there. Favourite for a family especially with the open spaces.

Food scene

A highly recommended restaurant in town famous for roast meat. If in town and craving a bite then this a joint with reasonable service and waiting times. The meat is good quality. You have to try the nyama choma in this place.

If you need a place with a modern feel but at the same time with a rustic feel this is definitely it. There is a spacious restaurant area inside the building and ample outdoor sitting space. A great place for a sundowner with friends or the family. The food options are great.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Transportation

If using public means of travel then there are two options. The easiest is using matatus (small minibuses) that will take you directly to the town centre. Alternatively a more convenient way is to use the local cab services. There is an uber version for Nakuru popularly referred to as Wasili, they have competitive prices and come in handy. You will need to download the app on google play to be able to use this service. A third option is to use tuk tuks. These are three wheeled automobiles that allow upto three passengers. These are a great option for travel in the inner parts of the town
Customs and culture

Customs and culture

Nakuru is an emerging city with a metropolitan feel. The people here are from diverse communities and multicultural. This makes it very easy to interact with most people in the city. People are friendly and willing to help if you need pieces of advice whenever you are stuck.
Don't miss

Game drive in the Lake Nakuru National Park

This is the biggest attraction in town and you should not miss the opportunity. The combination of a Lake and national park 188 sqm with diverse wildlife is a must visit place. My house is located just 8 minutes drive from the Lanet gate of the national park. Entrance for locals is Ksh.800 for adults and ksh.200 for children. For non residents the charges are 35USD for adults and 20 USD for children. My advise is get there very 8.00 am because you need at least 6hrs to go through the entire park. http://www.kws.go.ke/lake-nakuru-national-park
What to pack

Bring comfortable slip ons

The house floor is tiled but to get even mor comfortable I recommend some warm slip on shoes. I will provide some bathing slippers but these wont be as comfortable. Remember to carry your own toothbrush, lotions, perfumes etc. Bathing soaps, towel and linen are provided.
