Shanklin theatre has a great calendar of shows, and if you want to leave the car behind, you can catch the frequent bus service just two minutes walk from Goldcrest. Perfectly positioned for golfers and golfing holidays Goldcrest bungalow is close to Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club. With a par 70 (men), par 72 (ladies) 18-hole parkland course that's hosted the county championships many times, it welcomes visitors and offers special deals. Importantly, it's playable 52 weeks and has a great clubhouse serving meals. Regular competitions such as ladies day on a Tuesday morning, and men's events typically on Wednesday and Saturdays also give you the opportunity of challenge to showcase your skills. The club also runs free professional training periodically to encourage girls and women to take up the game, so it's worth checking their website before booking your stay if you want to take part in any of their events and offers so that you can match the dates. The golf club (as you'd expect) does have a dress code, which is smart casual or golfing attire (but no rugby/football shirts, trendy ripped jeans, shortie shorts (long tailored shorts are ok), and no speedos or flip flops ha ha).

Sandown airfield hosts loads of events all season including live music and BBQs, cycle races, fun runs, car boot sales (typically on a Saturday), classic car shows and offers free car parking. It also houses the aircraft museum and giant rocket from the island’s space race days. It's well worth checking their website to match your stay dates with any events they hold that you'd like to attend. Just as an example, there's a company that comes over a couple of times during the season that does helicopter pleasure flights from the grass airfield, which will take you across Sandown bay giving you some amazing aerial photo opportunities to share on social media. We walked up to watch them last year and to enjoy the BBQ and music that the café bistro puts on. www.eghn.org.uk
