Sightseeing

Waimea Canyon State Park is the largest canyon in the Pacific and will undoubtedly capture your gaze, with its 10 mile long stretch at a mile wide and measuring more than 3,500 feet deep. The history of Kauai can be seen in the walls and crags of the canyon as you explore the more than 45 miles of trails. A truly remarkable sight offering numerous scenic overlooks and photo opportunities. Surrounding the Waimea Canyon is the Kokee State Park which occupies 4,345 acres of land. Norfolk pines, Koa hardwoods, native plants and wildlife are just a small fraction of what you will see here. State operated cabins and hiking by permit is available year-round with advance reservations. Waimea Canyon hiking maps can be found at the Kokee Natural History Museum next to the Kokee lodge.

Shipwreck Beach is a local favorite for surfing and body surfing. Located in front of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, parking is just beyond the hotels main entrance. Large surf usually pounds the shore and makes for difficult swimming and boogie boarding. Here is also where you can find the start of the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail, a great hike to explore the otherwise inaccessible coastline. Strong shore break can makes this beach a dangerous spot to swim. Best for beachcombing and sunsets.

Traveler advice

Ways to save

Ways to save

If you want to save some money, you can pack your own coffee. Coffee can be expensive on Kauai. You can also bring a few laundry detergent pods with you if you plan on doing laundry while you're here. There is a Walmart and a Costco within approximately 13 miles of the condo. There is a Big Save grocery store within 4 miles, but the prices are higher than Walmart and Costco. Long's Pharmacy is 0.4 miles away, and the pricing is reasonable.
Book before you go

KAUAI.COM is a very helpful website.

You can book excursions directly from the KAUAI.COM website. It is wise to book the popular tours (NaPali Coast, Tubing, ATV Tour) ahead of time. The Na Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Wailua Falls, Wailua River, Fern Grotto, Sleeping Giant and Hanalei Valley are just a few of the places waiting to be explored. Kauai is a nature lovers paradise with dozens of hiking trails to explore and countless beaches to discover.
