Fun with kids

The Cataract Gorge has an amazing new sensory playground with a sand pit, water play , swings, slide and a huge hamster wheel. There is an outdoor pool and it is only a 5 minute walk from our house if you take the short cut from the bottom corner of the yard. It is a steep and slippery track, but our 4 year old can do it.

This is a great playground for all aged kids. We like to sweeten our visit with scoop ice cream and / or fish and chips from Rupert and Hound (which is across the pedestrian bridge to the south of the park).

Food scene

Excellent coffee and vegetarian food. We love the sweet-brew egg and the avocado on toast 😋

Cafe / bakery / butter factory in a retrofitted warehouse. Everything they sell is delicious, but you can’t beat their walnut croissant with an oat latte.

Delicious Australian / Indian cuisine. It is not super authentic, but it is tasty. We recommend the beef vindaloo if you like it hot and the malai kofta if you don’t. Their naans are good too. They also home deliver to our house.

If you are in Launceston on a Saturday morning then you must visit the local farmers market. It has great produce (eg. raspberries, cherries, organic vegetables, local milk, cheese, meats honey and coffee beans) delicious breakfast / lunch options and coffee. There is usually live music and quoits for the kids.
