The 1.1 million acre Colville National Forest has something for every outdoor enthusiast. Spread out over the Northeast Washington area, all of the forest is accessible within only a couple hour drive from the cabin. Chewelah is considered the Gateway to the Colville, with the forest stretching north, east and south of town.

The Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge is located about 30 minutes north of Chewelah. There is no fee to visit, and several fun trails to explore, along with lakes, meadows, and a scenic drive that features historic locations.
