Locally sourced food - usually sharing plates, and the menu changes reasonably frequently. At the moment, on the basis of our last visit (in January 2020), focussing on what I'd probably describe as Aussie/Asian fusion.

Down on the Esplanade in Torquay - our go to spot for casual food and good margaritas. We'd roughly describe it as Mexican/Aussie fusion (in a good way!) - and always had a good selection of both Mexican and local craft beers.

Just about an eight minute drive from the house, out at Dundowran Beach. Lovely outdoor cafe - perfect spot to grab an afternoon snack or some tea.

Neighborhoods

If you want a more quiet and sedate beach setting, head west of Hervey Bay to Toogoom. It's a small, sleepy village with a largely undeveloped beachfront. It's about a twenty minute drive from the house.

Sightseeing

It's one of the largest sand islands in the world - you can only access it with a really sturdy 4WD or through a tour group at River Heads. Make sure to visit the freshwater lake in the middle of the island!

This is a fantastic and (mostly, except for a couple of the water slides) free water park on the Esplanade at Pialba. It's a great spot for kids to hang out - we take our 18 month old there quite a bit when we're in town.
