Tapas places

These are bars and restaurants that serve tapas. Not all of them do!
Antonio is a great chef. His casual restaurant has a lovely terrace outside the front of the church. His food is fantastic. He’ll do tapas if you ask. He can take something as simple as a plate of fried mushrooms and make it absolutely delicious. He also does full meals, and a great-value menu del dia.

Down on the beach is Tito’s, the first chiringuito (beach bar) in Mojácar. Opened by Tito himself in the ‘60s, it’s a Mojácar institution. After Tito passed away it was taken over by his daughter Tesni. It’s super friendly, has live music and food, and the best margaritas for miles around.

This bar is great - it’s moved from the address on google maps, but ask any local and they’ll show you where it is. Run by an Argentinian chap called Carlos, it’s decked out like a Cuban revolutionary’s living room. Carlos doesn’t speak English but his pal Gustavo does, he’ll likely be behind the bar putting on records.

This is a great local bar - it’s actually called La Tahona, but the google listing calls it Plaza de las Flores. There’s no food. A good place to hang late at night. Popular with the younger locals.

The address on google doesn’t look quite right for this funky Mexican cantina. It’s next to the Red Cross building, so should be easy to find. The tuna tacos are remarkable, and there’s lots of other good stuff to choose from.

Convenience store

Where to get your groceries etc
This is the only convenience store in the pueblo. If you need bread, milk, beverages, fruit and veg etc. this is the place. They keep siesta hours though. Between 2ish and 5.30 you’ll have to go down to the beach to Consum or Mercadona - big chain supermarkets that are open all day. Except Sunday. Cristobal is open on Sundays until 1.30.

Sightseeing

The Cabo de Gata is a vast national park that stretches from just south of Mojácar to Almería airport. It contains many beautiful beaches and old villages. A great place for cycling, hiking, beach-going and camping. It would take a few days to experience it all.

You might be aware that many Hollywood movies were filmed in the Cabo de Gata and Tabernas desert. Here’s the IMDB page for films shot in this region https://www.imdb.com/search/title-text/ The Tabernas Desert has a mini-Hollywood theme park.
