My favorite pizza. Counter-serve, fast-paced and cheap, it's a great place to get an authentic slice.

Los Tacos No. 1 is inside Chelsea Market, which is a little touristy, but the tacos are amazing. Fresh tortillas made while you stand in line. Great choice if you are near the High Line.

BYOB Indian/ Bangladeshi food - go here with a group. This place is insane, it's super tiny, the food is delicious, it's crammed full of christmas lights, the music is loud (make sure to tell them it's your birthday..) Be prepared to wait for a table. Definitely a nighttime spot.

Food market with many different vendors, all delicious. My favorite is Los Tacos No. 1 but there are a lot of options. This is a good choice if you are near the High Line and hungry.

Drinks & Nightlife

Hidden gem near Chinatown - plush orange carpet, 70s music, christmas lights, old movie posters, a pool table in the back, it feels like you're on that 70s show.

Rooftop bar on the west side - go early to get a good seat for sunset. Expensive drinks, only go for one or two. Great views.

This place is a dive - the owners are from New Orleans and the drinks are cheap. It's also the official New Orleans Saints bar in the city, so it's always packed on Sundays. Go for cheap drinks and a casual vibe.

This is a beer hall, not a brewery, but it's a fun place to hang out with a group. Long tables, big glasses, decent food, and a young crowd. Better for earlier in the day.

Speakeasy in Little Italy. No signs out front. Drinks are a little expensive but it's a cool and younger vibe. Can get crowded.

Essentials

Cheap, quality grocery store two blocks from my apartment. This chain doesn't index their prices so an apple costs the same amount in New York as it does in Kansas. I do most of my shopping here.

Arts & Culture

Don't pay the full amount - it's a suggested fee. You can donate $5, $10, or whatever you're comfortable with and still get into the museum. This is true for all museums in the city.

Free way to see the Statue of Liberty and get a good view of the downtown Manhattan skyline from the water. The boat doesn't stop at the statue but this is a good option to save some money.
