Food Scene

There are several eating and drinking establishments in the neighborhood, all of which are 5-10 minutes away on foot. The North End, Boston’s Italian quarter, and it’s restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops are reachable via a very inexpensive Uber/Lyft/taxi ride, or by a pleasant stroll that passes over Boston’s picturesque inner harbor.

On Hanover Street in the North End. Great food at very reasonable prices. And dessert is just across the street at Mike’s Pastry. Be aware, though: it’s tiny, so you’ll probably have to wait in line to get in, and it’s cash-only.

Down the street from The Boston Gahhhden. Yes, it’s another pizzeria, but it’s my go-to place when I want a Roman style pie with the perfect chewy crust. And again, just a 10-minute walk!

A short walk into the Navy Yard, past Old Ironsides and the cruiser USS Cassin Young. Menu is unique and diverse, including my favorite braised short ribs. Some sidewalk seating available when the weather cooperates.

Need something for your sweet tooth on your way home after the Italian feast that you just consumed? E&B is — what else — just a few blocks away and serves Charlestown’s best gourmet ice cream. Three dozen flavors of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet with fun names like Beantown Buzz, “Deep Purple” Chip, S’moreo, and Space Cake. And illustrious Rock ‘n Roll roots that provided wee-hour snacks to local musicians like Aerosmith, Boston, and The Cars.
