Mohonk Preserve's West Trapps trails is a favorite among its many trails that run across the Shawagunk Ridge. It's light (possible to do with kids) and scenic. One route we love from West Trapps can take you to Coxing, where you'll find a beautiful swimming hole. Check the Mohonk website for detailed info about a range of other trails. Enjoy!

Beautiful swimming hole in the Catskills with waterfalls and amazing views all along the drive to get there. Swimming in the warmer months, but also a beautiful drive anytime of year. Check out Marty's Mercantile (listed in Eating Out) on your way there or back.

Eating Out

Westwind Orchard, one of the closest spots from our house to eat out, is now open year round on the weekends, with a comfy restaurant serving farm-to-table dishes and a great atmosphere. When the weather is nice, eating outside is delightful and for those with kids there is plenty of fun for them to entertain themselves!

If you're heading north to Woodstock or the Catskill Preserve, Marty's place is one of our favorite spots for breakfast, lunch, a snack. Great coffee, delicious sandwiches, and some cool local goods. In the summer, they also have homemade ice cream.

Excellent Mexican restaurant in downtown New Paltz. It's small, so you may want to call ahead if it's the weekend, or catch them at the beginning of the dinner hour when it's less likely there will be a wait.

Closed for the winter, but in the spring/summer/fall this is a must-visit for coffee, delicious food delights, and really nice space to chill outside. There's also a shop in the barn. It's just down the road on Samsonville!

Grocery, Wine, and Quick Stops

If you're driving to or from the Woodstock or Kingston area, we highly recommend stopping at Bistro To Go. It's one of six delightful independent food shops on Route 28. You could easily miss this spot, as it looks like an ordinary "strip mall," but the small collection of artisan shops that have come together to form "Eat Drink 28" is a one-stop culinary collective. Eat Drink 28 is made up of Blue Mountain Bistro-to-Go, Cheese Louise, The Wine Hutch, La Bella Pasta, Hookline Fish Co. and KBBK Kombucha.  You can enjoy the high-quality house-made takeout offered at Blue Mountain Bistro-to-Go, which specializes in eclectic comfort food, and delicious baked goods, with a great selection of gourmet groceries. More than 250 international and national cheeses are available at neighboring Cheese Louise in addition to breads, cured meats, crackers, caviar, oils, and freshly made foods and soups. Over 500 wines at the Wine Hutch next door.   Newbies on the block KBBK Kombucha migrated from Brooklyn in 2015.   The oldest business in the stretch, La Bella Pasta, family-owned and operated since 1985, creates fresh-made raviolis, sauces, and pastas.

The upstate version of a NYC corner deli, we often stop at Troy's on our way to and from the house. It's a very no-frills local spot but the pizza is delicious!
