Food Scene
I am a barbecue connoisseur and this place is world class. They cook with hickory wood, the meats a perfectly seasoned and cooked, and unlike most other bbq joints, the sides and desserts are fantastic too. They also have a location in Waynesville.

Best little pizza joint in town. Popular with the college kids and locals alike. Very small but good atmosphere and place for a slice and a beer.

This local family run diner, just east of downtown Sylva (not NYC) on Main St, is a good little greasy spoon. We enjoy breakfast or brunch there, but the pies are nothing short of phenomenal. You can buy one to take with you if they are not running out. If you have tried them and know which one(s) you want, it is even worth calling a day ahead. But keep in mind, they are closed on Sundays.

Shopping
Both Sylva and Waynesville have quaint little shops in vibrant small town downtown areas, and Asheville has everything from quirky stores to outlet malls. But this place should be your starting point if anyone in your group wants to do any fishing in the area. They can tell you the holes to hit, flies to buy, and even offer guide services.
