A beachy beach - good for swimming, walking and sunbathing. It's popular so a bit crowded but you can walk down the beach to quieter areas.

Panmure Island is connected by a road so no ferry needed. It has gorgeous boardwalk trails and one of the nicest beaches on the island. It also has an iconic lighthouse that you can go inside. This is the place to get some stunning and classic PEI photos. Don't camp here though; the National Park campround is disappointing.

An easy 30 minute "hike" will take you to a winding wooden boardwalk that becomes a floating walkway over a geographically unique shallow pond bordered by a large crescent shaped sand dune. The vegetation here is so green and lush it looks like a Lord of the Rings movie set - kind of magical. Over a small dune the path ends on a breathtaking beach with silky smooth white sand stretching in either direction as far as the eye can see. I swear you can see the curve of the earth from there.

Sightseeing

A quaint little artists' vlllage by the sea. A nice place to stop on a driving tour. Stroll around the pretty neighbourhood, visit a few shops and have icecream on the wharf at sunset.

It is one of the more touristy areas on the island but the Cavendish area is well worth seeing. If you like Anne of Green Gables, Avonlea will delight you. :)

Essentials

This shopping complex on both sides of the road has everything "essential" you could possibly need - a grocery store, clothing stores, a drug store, a bank, a drive thru cofee place, a movie theatre and more. It's not romantic but it's pretty darn handy.
