Loch Fyne is a national chain, but you'd never guess. Fresh fish and seafood is served here at its finest.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is a chain pub, so sensible drinks prices and reasonable pub grub can be relied upon.

Formerly a Seaman's Mission, this building was lavishly restored to host the beautiful Malmaison Hotel. The hotel bar is great for a lavish cocktail.

If you want a decent cocktail, this is one of the better options away from George Street. Very busy on weekends, this is a small bar but worth a visit.

I love this wee pub. A beautiful conversion of an old dockside building, this bar serves great food as well as good beer and cocktails. Brunch on a weekend is lovely here with the view of the river.

This is a beautiful little gift shop with loads of unusual present ideas. There are lots of prints/photos of Edinburgh to be had which are fantastic souvenirs (and easy to pack!)

I love the Botanics... Used to come here as a kid with my parents all the time. The Gardens are within easy walking distance along the cycle path from the flat.

The pathways along the Water of Leith are lovely, and make for a really good walk. You can follow the river all the way out to Balerno to the west of the city, or just take a wander closer to Leith.

A bit concrete-heavy on first glance, this building is actually beautiful. Free guided tours take place on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays and are well worth it - advance booking online is essential.

Once owned by the Royal Family, this is now a five-star visitor attraction and a floating piece of history. If nothing else, you get to have a nose around the Queen's bedroom!

Everything Else

My local pool. Full of the original Victorian period features, the 25m pool is great for a workout; alternatively use the sauna/steam room to relax :) The pool timetable is on the flat's notice board.
