These are our recommendations for excellent food in the northeastern part of the island. Most of these locations are near Rio Grande, Luquillo & Fajardo. If you are staying in San Juan or Carolina, you can expect a drive of 20-40 minutes to reach these restaurants.

You can easily make a day of driving along the northern coast exploring and stoping to eat along the way.

Piñones is the best place to go to eat genuine Puerto Rican food, seafood, traditional fried appetizers, mojitos, not to mention incredible beaches, surf and so many photo-ops! It is very busy on the weekends and holidays, but I strongly recommend making a day of it. Eat all you can, then walk it off along the boardwalk or one of the many beautiful beaches.
