Sightseeing

One of the most amazing spots close by to hike and explore is the Dungeness Spit and Dungeness Wildlife Refuge which is 3.5 miles away from our place. To enter the wildlife refuge there is a $3 fee to go down to the beach (cash or check accepted). If you are feeling adventurous you can even hike out the entire spit to the New Dungeness Lighthouse. It is quite a hike along the beach (10+ miles out and back), but it is a truly worthwhile destination (restroom and water available at the lighthouse). For those not able to walk far there are scenic overlook spots you can park at.

Truly breath taking views. Well worth the drive. Sometimes so popular the parking lot fills up and no further guests are allowed up until some people leave. We suggest to get there early and of course try to go on a clear day to take advantage of the views. Usually open in winter as well with a small ski area and plenty of snowshoe area. For warm weather we suggest taking good shoes for hiking since there are plenty of trails to explore.

Lake Crescent Area west of Port Angeles is spectacular! At Lake Crescent there is hiking along the Spruce Railroad Trail to the punchbowl, and for a shorter hike, the hike to Marymere Falls from the Lake Crescent Lodge area is wonderful and quite easy, with amazing viewing of the falls. Lake Crescent is also an excellent place to kayak or paddle board with starting points at East Beach and many other spots. For freshwater swimming East Beach on Lake Crescent is great and gets deeper very gradually.
