For a medium range walk a favourite is along the riverside New Walk, laid out as a promenade in the eighteenth century to the Millennium Bridge, and back into the city along Terry Avenue, passing Rowntrees Park, a large ornamental and play park with lake, given to the City by the Rowntree family in memory of Rowntree workers killed in the Great War. Good playground for children, and a cafe.

No visit to York is complete without tea at Betty’s. Also actually breakfast is excellent! Betty’s was founded by a Swiss confectioner in 1919 and has become a Yorkshire institution, combining the cuisines of Switzerland and Yorkshire into something suitably calorific for a holiday!

The best all-round Italian food in York imo! Run by Sicilians, their arancini and cannoli are outstanding! Also a pretty impressive gelato counter.

If you’re going to the coast Filey is quieter and nicer than the larger resorts, but has a beautiful promenade, beach and fabulous fish and chips!

Clifford’s Tower has just reopened after a £5m investment in a new viewing deck and museum. It is probably the best place to view the city, better than the Minster because you can view the Minster!
