Customs and culture

When the surf is good. NW wind direction SW swell. It’s “Pumping” or “Going Off” is common lingo amongst surfers.
Ways to save

Factory outlet Surf Shops Baines CRT Torquay

Plenty of surf wear (wet suits) and clothing to choose from at better than retail outlet prices. Normally a bargain to be had!
Getting around

Bike is a great way to get around locally.

Make sure you are able to lock your bikes.
What to pack

Pack for all seasons!

Torquay fronts the Southern Ocean. Ugg boots in winter. Wide brimmed hat during summer and a light spray jacket for all occasions. Appropriate footwear when visiting bush treks and visiting waterfalls!
Getting around

When walking the tracks and coastal beach accesses.

Be aware of snakes around the surrounding beach access points, such as walking through the dunes off Whites Beach and the cliff tops of Jan Juc during the warmer weather. Ps. They are more frightened of us! So it’s preferable to let them just go about their business!
