Sightseeing

Porth Nanven is commonly known by its generic name, Cot Valley and has a beautiful little cove. The valley itself is steeped in tin mining history where historic remains are preserved amongst nature. Cot Valley is approximately 20 minutes walk from Little Geo, there is a direct road that leads down so you can drive too but parking is not guaranteed and there are limited free parking spaces at the cove. It is a lovely walk and although it’s all downhill from St Just, the walk back is a little more challenging! If you follow the coastal path down there from Carralleck Lane in St Just, where the road leads onto the footpath, the path then leads you even deeper into the valley where you can appreciate sub tropical plants, beautiful glimpses of the ocean through the greenery and a gentle stream that follows the road down to the cove. Cot Valley cove has a beach at low tide (Google Cot Valley tide timetable). There are frequent glimpses of seals that swim very close to shore and ‘hang out’! Spottings of dolphins and basking sharks are also found here. At the cove at Cot Valley, you can also access the coastal path to Gwenver beach and Sennen Cove which is approximately an hour’s walk from the cove. Alternatively, if you turn north, the coastal path connects to Carn Gloose which is a stunning lookout point on the cliff tops where you can see put to the Longships lighthouse and Land’s End. Follow the path beyond Carn Gloose and you will get to Cape Cornwall.
