Sightseeing

Go early in the morning (starting at 7) if you want to avoid crowds. Plus, they fill the pool with fresh water in the mornings. Outdoor pool in a beautiful historic setting. If you are up for braving the crowds, the bar is a nice place to get a drink and food.

Yellowstone is amazing year-round. The winter landscape is fantastic because the thermal features are more dramatic in the cold air. Much of the Park is closed in winter, but Mammoth Hot Springs is accessible for winter hiking (on boardwalk) or cross-country skiing. Ski up to Tower Falls, or go to Lamar Valley and look for wolves (hint: look for groups of cars/people where somebody has a scope set up- especially if any cars have antennae).

Food scene

This is a nice meeting place and has good beer. There is a growler in the apartment if you want to take it for a fill. Our other local brewery, Neptune also is a great place to go.

This gem has an amazing wine and cheese selection. I recommend getting samples and recommendations, then coming home with your treasures and enjoying a home picnic. Remember- money and calories don’t count on vacation! …but they do have great wines for any budget.
