Walking/Sightseeing

'Slitt Wood' which starts from Westgate, along the Dale. The walk, which is 3.5 miles, takes you through the woods past waterfalls, then out onto the moor to see the remains of some extensive lead working. Carry on along the river, up onto the wild moors then back along the track with extensive views across the Dale. The North Pennines AONB have produced a useful geotrail guide to tell you all about this. Check Slitt Wood and West Rigg Geotrail on explorenorthpennines.
