Things to do in the locality

these are all nearby villages/ towns that have nice leisure options with somewhere for a snack afterwards
Moynalty is famous for the Threshing festival and the "threshing field" is basically a park in the middle of Moynalty open to the public, it's well used with walkers and joggers, picnic areas there too along the river. You'll see a path opposite the grocery shop leading down to the river / tennis courts, that's the one to take. (BTW the Moynalty Coffee shop in the middle.of the village is really good, the owner Suzanne does fantastic cakes / quiches etc you can order. Not sure what the story is currently but worth checking.)

Virginia Woods is again about 15 mins away, if you find the Virginia Rugby Club there that's where you park your car and you'll see the entrance to the forest. Again a few trails to choose from, it's on the edge of the Park Hotel grounds and parts of the trails are along the lake. The Masons Apron is a lovely cafe in Virginia if you want a cuppa and cake afterwards (they do the best carrot cake!).

Dun na Ri forest park in Kingscourt is a 15 mins drive and has tons of forest trails, it's gorgeous there. That is right beside Cabra Castle, when lockdown allows that is a nice place to go for tea afterwards, they used to do a lovely afternoon tea there too, fab on a sunny day to have outside.

Sightseeing

Loughcrew Hills in Oldcastle is a 25/30 mins drive from the house and has the best walk and views around. There are megalithic cairns at the top of the hill with incredible views, you can see 12 counties from up there! There are 2 cafes there, Loughcrew Megalithic Centre and Loughcrew House Lime cafe. The former has a very cute set up with converted old thatched cottages, the latter is on the grounds of Loughcrew House where you can also do lovely walks, they have a "fairy trail" etc
