A great starting point for a multi-day hike into the backcountry or just a good spot to relax in the parking lot. The lake is surrounded by big mountains and the water is perfectly clear.

Things to Do

Golfing at Mammoth is a great way to boost your ego. Sneak out for a round or two and see how much further you hit the ball at 8,000+ feet. Snowcreek Golf Course also has a driving range with a great view that is informal, quiet, and less than a 5-minute drive from the village or center of town. It's also a great place to introduce new golfers because the driving range is usually empty.

Upside Down Hiking

I'm a fan of high ROI adventures. In other words, I don't like hiking, but I love to hike when the rewards exceed the effort. A good example of this is Dragon's Back Trail on Mammoth Mountain. In the summer you can take the Gondola to Mammoth's summit. Then, you can hike down to Twin Lakes. Along the way there is a secret cache of whiskey (message me for details), exceptional views, multiple ecosystems, wildflowers, and even a lava tube to explore. The trip ends at Tamarack Lodge where you can sip on top-shelf craft cocktails before catching the free bus back to the village.

Check Events Before Leaving

Mammoth Lakes has done a good job of adding high-quality festivals and experiences during the summer months. Make sure you look at www.visitmammoth.com/events/ and https://www.mammothmountain.com/winter/things-to-do/things-to-do/events-calendar prior to arriving. You may discover something worth checking out (Monster Energy Motocross) or attending (Mammoth Wine Festival). Some events, like the Sunset Summit Parties or Mammoth Fine Festival, will sell out and it's important to grab a ticket early.
