Food Scene

This is a wonderful street in a trendy, upmarket suburb 4 kilometres from my house. There's pretty much every type of restaurant your could ask for, fantastic coffee scene, an old-style cinema (6 theatres) that will take you back in time - and less than $10 a movie. At the end of the street is the City Cat (ferry) that will take you to the city - or all the way to the university at St Lucia (about an hour to the uni). It's a great way to see Brisbane and especially pretty in the evening.

This is one of those great restaurants you find in an unexpected place - just the local suburban shopping complex. http://satayria.com.au/

Entertainment & Activities

South Bank Parklands is 10 minutes drive or 20 minutes on the train. You can also get there from Oxford Street, Bulimba City Cat terminal - definitely the prettiest way! Restaurants, movies, parklands. It's right by the river. And an easy walk across the bridge to the city.

Essentials

Local petrol station / store - just a few minutes walk from home. It's a bit expensive, but handy.

Sightseeing

More commonly known as the Gateway Bridges. A very easy one kilometre stroll from my home is the start of the bike/walkway across the Gateway. It's 5 km return walk-ride. There are several shelters with seats and water at intervals on the bridge. In summer this highly exposed walk is best done early morning or late afternoon. There are lovely views from the top.

Parks & Nature

OK, not a beach like the Gold Coast, but there is a sandy beach with a jetty that is a great spot to fish. It's a popular spot for land-based fishing at night. There are also BBQ facilities, shelters and public toilets. It's only 2km from my home.

Getting Around

About 4km from my home - at the end of the Oxford Street restaurant precinct - is the City Cat (ferry) to the Southbank Parklands, Museum, the city, casino and university. It's a lovely way to see Brisbane, especially in the evening. There are beautiful views as you approach the Story Bridge and the city. The trip from Bulimba to the University is approximately one hour.
