  • Super cosy flat in brilliant location. This could not be any closer to the centre of town; fab Indian restaurant 2 minutes walk away, lovely pub (the Taggy Man) about 30 seconds walk! Kitchen was well stocked and groceries provided for breakfast which was a lovely touch. Wood burner in the kitchen for added toastiness. This place had everything we needed for a short break and some fab walks on the doorstep. Overnight parking easy and free (turn right in front of Mango Tree and park just behind Public Toilets). Local people lovely and friendly- definitely recommend for a weekend away.

Our place is close to Ravenstonedale village (3 miles), which has two excellent pubs serving tasty, award winning food and beer. The beautiful Howgill Fells are literally outside the door. You’ll love it because of the comfy beds, the cosiness, and the views. It's is good for families or large groups to get together and enjoy the outdoors, or to relax in front of the cosy log-burning stove. If you are active, this is a mountain bikers paradise as well as being brilliant for walkers too.
The downstairs space is bright and light with an open-plan layout. There is a a well-equipped kitchen and spacious lounge/dining area. There is a wet-room downstairs with toilet, basin and shower and a laundry area with washing machine and dryer. The upstairs space includes 2 bathrooms, 2 double rooms, a dormer with 2 bunk beds and 2 singles and and an adjoining dormer with 2 bunk beds.
The area has recently been officially included within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A crossroads of footpaths lie outside the front door. Wainwright’s ‘Pennine Journey’ long distance footpath has recently been opened and the path is literally outside the front door! The popular waterfall beauty spot of Cautley Spout is a gentle walk away, through the ancient and unspoilt woodland of Murthwaite Park, and it is great fun to walk to Ravenstonedale (about 3 miles away) to a choice of two homely pubs which serve great food and beer. Another walk is to cross to the other side of the valley to Fell End Clouds – a notable area of limestone pavement, where you can pick up the Pennine Bridleway if you fancy a longer day out. For more stalwart walkers, the area really is your oyster. And if you tire of the Yorkshire Dales and want further challenge, it’s an easy car journey to the heart of the Lake District, with all it has to offer.
  • Excellent weekend here with 12 of us, there was plenty of room and plenty of space for cooking and eating! The location is great for a quite weekend with lots of walks to do nearby, couldn’t fault the hosts at all, Thankyou very much

  • Just want to say how much we enjoyed our weekend in this cottage. Even though the weather wasn't the best, we loved every minute of it and made the most out of the games and television. It genuinely felt like a home away from home. Cosy, homely, welcoming and the views where amazing. Rooms where perfect for our group too. Can't fault this place at all, we can't wait to come back in the summer!

    Kristian2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, excellent communication, really good location. Me and my friends had an excellent long weekend

    Sam2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We've just come back from a weekend at the barn for a surprise birthday and could not fault it! The barn is gorgeous - the photos really do not do it justice. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking for 14 people and the dining and living room space is perfect for everyone to dine and socialise together. It was so warm and cosy in the barn (incredible underfloor heating), perfect for a January weekend. Lynda and Fraser were great hosts, answering any questions prior to our stay quickly and were helpful in suggesting a walk and pub for us. We would definitely recommend a walk to the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale!

    Sophia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay for a big group of friends to see in the new year. Stunning countryside, beautiful cottage, and very well equipped. Lynda and Fraser were very accommodating and kind. Would thoroughly recommend!

    Meg2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • In a word our stay was perfect. The location is beautiful the cottage is immaculate and the most wonderful place we could have wished for to spend quality time celebrating our dad's birthday. Nothing was too much for Lynda and Fraser who kindly gave us some ice to save us a trip out and eggs for breakfast. I would rate the stay as outstanding and could not recommend this more. We would love to come back in the summer to make full use of the outdoor facilities too this place really is a gem. Thank you so much.

    Jennifer2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Lynda and Fraser’s place for a big family Christmas get together and had a wonderful time. We found it to be a well equipped and lovely space for a large group of adults and kids to cook and socialise together. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, I loved the view of the sheep from the laundry room! Lynda and Fraser were responsive, kind and thoughtful hosts. Thank you for everything, we had a great stay!

Relax in your own modern annex ( attached to main house). The quiet village of Soulby is two miles from Kirkby Stephen, small town on the Coast to Coast walking/cycling route. An hour from Lake Windermere. A paradise for walkers, cyclists, lovers of nature. Kendal, Penrith and Carlisle just a short drive away. Hop, skip and a jump from Yorkshire Dales and Pennines- an area awash with walks, historical market towns.......Adults, children, babies and dogs all welcome!
A wonderful , easy going place to use as a base to explore or simply to relax. Dogs welcome but must be kept on a lead in garden due to the fact we have dogs, cats, chickens and pygmy goats! The single sofa bed can be moved from main bedroom into large sitting room, if required.
  • What a fantastic find! We were originally meant to stay just the one night but after getting so settled in this home away from home, we decided to extend our trip! Kate has thought of quite literally everything when it comes to making her annexe a place where you feel comfortable. When we arrived she had put on all the heaters, already put up a travel cot for our baby so we didn’t have to get out ours and it felt so cosy. We had no trouble getting into the house using a easy key box and Kate came to check there wasn’t anything else we needed. Every our dog Dobby has everything he required and loved watching the sheep and goats out of the big front door windows. Thanks Kate! We hope to be back next year and will be sure to book with you again.

Brand new self contained, en-suite guest accomodation with kitchenette (hob, fridge and sink); amazing views; edge of Dales/Lakes/Pennines! Part of larger detached property surrounded by wildlife friendly gardens (many birds and other wild visitors), and a kitchen garden. Views from the property are of Yorkshire Dales to the East and Pennines to the North. Perfect for walking, cycling, working individuals or a rural getaway.
The guest suite has views towards the Yorkshire Dales and to the south is a small part of the garden and pasture with dry stone walls. The property is located on the edge of the Dales on Ash Fell, close to the Lake District and the Pennines, in Kirkby Stephen. The space is a unique option due to being very well located for visiting the above areas, at low cost, with a high quality modern and stylish finish.
Kirkby Stephen centre is approximately one mile from the property. The town has pubs, cafes, takeaways and restaurants. There are vast numbers of walking and cycle routes in the area. It is a 'walkers are welcome' town. The most prominent fells are; >Hartley Fell (where 9 Standards Rigg is located) >Wild Boar Fell >Tailrigg >Mallerstang Edge Which can be seen and walked to from the property. Most routes can be cycled also. There are also many beautiful walks available along the River Eden, and longer distance walks such as the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast. Other areas of interest and activities locally (within Kirkby Stephen) include: Settle to Carlisle Railway (less than a mile away) Stainmore Steam Railway (less than a mile away) Cumbria Classic Coaches (pass by the property) e-Bike hire Hang gliding Poetry Path Stenkrith Park (where the River Eden drops into a gorge known as Coop Kernan Hole - or the Devil’s Mustard Mill!) If you venture outside of Kirkby Stephen into the Dales, Pennines or Lakes there are endless places to visit. Leaflets will be in your room and I am always happy to provide information. The Tan Hill Pub (highest in UK) is just 12 miles away, and as good a place to start as any...

Far Field Yurt is situated in its own 3 acre meadow looking out over the Howgills. Perfect for anybody who is looking to explore the lovely countryside and then retreat back to our delightful yurt. The Yurt is large and spacious, it boasts beautiful panormaic views to be admired from the double hammock. We are an eco-friendly campsite and the Yurt has it's own private composting toilet and solar power for lighting and charging phones and tablets.
We have thought about every little detail, so when you stay with us there is no need for you to bring bedding, BBQ's or camping chairs! The Yurt has its very own kitchen equipped with all the essentials and more. The Yurt is filled with all kinds of comforts including a wood burning stove, blankets, cushions, hot water bottles, games and of course fairy lights. There is solar power to give you plenty of lighting inside as well as USB phone charging. A pleasantly surprising private toilet nestled away in the trees with fantastic views!
We are located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a short drive to the Lake District. There are two lovely village pubs serving great food and real ales, just 10 minute walk from the Yurt.
  • The yurt is lovely - cosy and warm - even in October with lashings of rain! The yurt is eco friendly - solar power charges and a compost toilet set back from the yurt in a wooded bit - you need a torch if you need to go in the nighttime! The area is beautiful with friendly sheep who come to say hello! The bed is comfortable and warm and the yurt has a clear dome where you can watch the stars at night . We had a magical stay and will be back!!

    Michelle2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • 2nd visit to the yurt and it doesn't dissappoint. Everything you need provided and more, beautiful part of the country for a little escape and lovely hosts! Will definitely be back again. :)

    Hannah2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing place. Magnus's yurt is comfy, clean and the views are stunning. Beautiful plants and trees all around the yurt and great facilities for cooking. The showers are amazing! Magnus was extremely helpful before and during our stay and made everything stress-free. Easy to get to by public transport (short taxi from Kirkby Stephen) and walks in the surrounding area were great. We highly recommend the Sunday roast at the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale.

    Louise2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is really beautiful. It has its own little garden with a fire pit, hammock, washing station and cooking shed. The hammock is amazing!!! We watched the sun set from it and spent loads of time reading our books in it (I never knew I was missing the experience of a hammock until this holiday and now I would recommend it to everyone!). The yurt itself has solar panel electricity (you just need USB plugs and it was more than sufficient to provide us with all the LampS, fairy lights and phone charge we needed). The bed is really comfortable and there are 4 hot waters should you need them. We used them for watching the sun set as mentioned. There is a lovely little stove in the yurt which we didn't really need as it was warm enough but we used just because it was nice! The kitchen has two gas rings and all the equipment you need for making food. (Pans, cutlery, mugs, glasses , tin opener etc) It's really lovely in that kitchen, I love how it's been made and love that there was a teapot provided! The toilet is just down a little path and is an eco toilet - really clean and well built. You can also use the camping facilities which include showers and toilets. The showers are so nice! Each shower is in its own room with plenty of space. They were clean and warm. The yurt also had towels to use. There was wood provided for the fires and you could buy more from Magnus if you needed it. It's a really great place to go visit. We spent a day in Kirby Stephen, had a walk to the 9 standards, went to brough castle for ice-cream and swam in the river at stenkrith (beautiful!). We had a meal in the kings head inn in ravenstonedale (less than 5 minute walk from the yurt) . It's a really nice pub with good food. We also went to smardale Gill viaduct for a walk. There's so much to do in this area and we were spoilt for choice! The.campsite is in a really beautiful location, it's easy to find but surrounded by mountains . Magnus is a really great host - he was friendly and accomadating. They obviously really care for the site and it shows in everything they've done. We stayed Monday to Friday and could definitely have stayed longer. It's a lovely place that you could happily just spend time at the yurt, in the garden and not go anywhere! I would recommend bringing blankets from home to use outside by the fire and on the hammock in the evening. We brought a bunch and it made it cosy! We would recommend stAying here! It's been fabulous! Thank-you Magnus.

    Esther2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Words don't do it justice! It's an amazing place to stay. Very private and surrounded by such stunning scenary. Everything has been provided for and more! The yurt was nicer than most houses, equipped with log burner and sun roof for star gazing and cosy nights in. Magnus was a wonderful host, I arrived alone and he made me feel right at home; he was very friendly, replied promptly to any messages prior to arrival and provided us with lots of local info. The details really make this accommodation special and we will definitely be returning. My friends and I had a lovely weekend there and would recommend this place to everyone and anyone! Ideal for those who want to be outdoors but aren't usually into camping :)

    Hannah2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous place to visit with magnificent scenery. The yurt is well equipped. Magnus is an excellent host; he is responding instantly and he is very welcoming. We enjoyed a sunny weekend there and planing to visit visit again soon. Ossama’s family

    Ossama2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • I booked two nights away for my wife and 3 year old son for a Christmas present. We haven’t stayed in a yurt before so I thought this may be a unique idea. Although I looked at the images on the profile, it does not do the site justice. We were surrounded by fields and had some friendly neighbours (sheep) who my son loved talking to. The yurt was very clean and had everything you could want. Magnus was a fantastic host who helped from the second we arrived helping to carry bags to the yurt using the agricultural baggage carriers (wheel barrows). He took us to meet the newly born lambs and provided us with fresh eggs for breakfast. Although temperature dropped below zero we were toasty warm in the yurt as the log burner was roaring all night. The local village has two nice pubs, a playground and a river which was great for catching bullheads. Overall, a great experience. I look forwarded to returning in the near future.

An airy, en-suite double room with TV, dressing table, drawers and hanging space for clothes. Cross the road from the house and pass through to Kirkby Stephen's main street for pubs, cafes & shops, a little art / culture, a small supermarket. But really you’re in the countryside: the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales National Park are just minutes away on foot, as is the River Eden.

    Anita2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Tom’s place is clean, comfortable and convenient for so many areas and activities around a Kirkby Stephen. I spent two days at the sheep auctions just down the road. Don’t miss them! Many restaurants are just a few minutes walk away. Tom is very helpful and easy to be around. Have stayed twice and would do so again. A great Airbnb!

  • Tom’s place is just what a traveller needs - comfortable, warm, sparkling clean, quiet, and Tom is easy and trusting about use of his kitchen and lounge. Although we didn’t meet Tom, we had a great time getting to know the other guests- super hill walkers and adventurers! A good Air BnB experience.

    Joanna2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tom’s place was great, enjoyed the town and our walk around. Tom is a nature guide and he suggested an amazing hike that we took and loved!! It was challenging but fabulous!! Great area to explore the Lake District.

    Tracy2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Tom has a lovely welcoming home that is very well-located in Kirkby Stephen. My ensuite room was spotless and like the rest of the house, beautifully furnished. The lovely comfy bed was just what this weary walker needed after several days hiking from St. Bees. Tom is from the area and knows its history well. On top of all his other kindnesses, he drove me to the railway station, (1 1/2 miles away) — much appreciated after the demanding hike to get there. When I continue my Coast to Coast walk in the future I hope to stay there again.

  • Tom's place is very attractive and in an excellent location. The room was clean and comfortable, with an excellent en-suite shower room. The shared sitting room, which we didn't use, looked very comfortable and was well provided with games, jigsaws and TV. A great place to stay.

  • This cottage is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, lovely local walks into the surrounding villages too! My friend and I felt welcomed and more so with thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Thank you for a lovely stay!

  • Great location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Some great walks nearby. Nice little cottage - clean, warm and quiet. Highly recommend.

  • Lovely cosy and comfy cottage in a beautiful setting. We had a very relaxing stay and hope to return one day. The chocolate cookies were a lovely extra!

    Gina2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in one of the ground floor, dog friendly rooms. A really nice place to unwind in the Dales. The room itself was really clean and a lovely place to relax after enjoying many of the local towns and walks.

    Tom2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful little gem off the beaten track. Dog friendly was an understatement, they even have a doggy paddock which you can use. So quiet, peaceful and welcoming. Perfect for a bit of r&r.

    Sarah2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we arrived it felt like a home away from home. There was everything in the unit that you could possibly want, which was much more spacious than I thought it would be (the Huntsman). It had a full kitchen (no dishwasher) a very comfortable bed and a separate lounge/dining area. The pump in the shower is quite noisy but gives you nice hot water (if you turn the control anti clockwise to 3 o'clock position). The views outside are wonderful with red squirrels, ducks appearing out the front of the unit. Emma was extremely helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit the Lakes and Yorkshire dales area

Brackenber Byre is a pet friendly, cosy cabin, in an old Cumbrian hill top farm where you can escape the overload of daily life (No WiFi). Enjoy the log fire, 100% cotton sheets, deep bath, luxury towels and Bluetooth speaker. The Byre is in the beautiful landscape of the Westmorland Dales and the ideal location for biking, walking, photography, seeing wildlife & star gazing. The Byre sleeps two in a double bed, is heated by a log burner, has a small kitchen, a bath and WC.
A stay in the Byre is an opportunity for you and your pet to completely escape the overload of daily life, so it has no WiFi. Many years ago the Byre was used to keep sheep in. Now it is a cosy cabin but retains many of its original features such as the wobbly walls and oak roof beams. Many farm animals live in the fields around the Byre so please keep your pooch on a lead. The Byre has parking for one car right outside and is separate from the main farm house, so you have your own private entry door. The porch area is a good place for hanging wet coats as the stone floor has a drain. All the windows have locally made oak sills with a waney edge, a charming feature. The floor is reclaimed vintage pine. The double bed is hand made by a local carpenter as are the oak window frames. The stained glass window in the WC is also made by a local craftsman. The bed sheets are 100% cotton, sateen weave and all the bedding and towels are from Christy. The kitchen utensils are by Denby, all of the finest quality. In the centre of the Byre is a circular log burner with all round glazing so the flames can be seen from all parts of the space. The log burner is the only form of room heating but once its going the Byre warms up very quickly. Next to it is a table and two cosy chairs. The kitchen area is very small and has a microwave, toaster kettle, sink and a small fridge. At the opposite end to the bed is a luxury deep bath with a shower tap. Piping hot water is available on demand via the exterior gas boiler. All you do is turn the tap to the left. A screen can be pulled out to provide extra privacy if required. In the roof is a Velux window which provides a lovely view of the surrounding tree tops from the bath and allows in lots of extra light. It has a blackout blind as do the main windows and door. Outside you have your own section of garden, near the wildlife pond, with a picnic area overlooking the dramatic rolling hills and the western slopes of the Pennine ridge. The garden is full of wildlife and the fields are most interesting during lambing time which starts about the 17 March and then afterwards the wild flowers grow till the grass is cut on about the 10 July. All the sheep and cows and sometimes the horses and a donkey are allowed back in soon after. During clear nights the star gazing here is very good.

  • Honestly one of the loveliest experiences I've ever had at an Airbnb. The location was so peaceful and quiet, as was the byre it's self. So glad we stayed here and can't wait to come back already.

  • Amazing little place to stay with cozy log fire and huge bath! Perfect for my little walking weekend with the dog. Lovely hosts who are willing to help and great location.

  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Byre and I can't recommend it highly enough! I stayed for two nights over a weekend as I wanted a cosy getaway in the countryside, and it absolutely fulfilled that. The property itself is gorgeous - finished to a very high standard, kitted out very tastefully with everything you could need, very clean, comfortable and warm. The logburner, free-standing bath, and comfortable bed were the highlights. Great location for long walks in the countryside, but very accessible too, and plenty to do around. Jon was very communicative, accommodating and friendly - I felt very safe, and couldn't have asked for a better host. I can't wait for my next visit!

  • The Waggonette is spot on for both short and long breaks. The cottage is a perfect size for two. Warm, clean and with everything you’d need for a self catered break. The patio and view is a real bonus. We brought two bike and were kindly allowed to store them in the shed next to the house. Emma’s hospitality strikes a great balance between being attentive and respecting privacy. Also delicious cake. A delightful break - we’ll be back. Thank you!

    Helen2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Emmas property and really appreciated the personal touch of an Easter simnel cake waiting for us when we checked in. The location was great, really quiet and tranquil- just what we wanted- and the other guests staying in the neighbouring properties were really friendly, which made the overall experience even more enjoyable. The place was more spacious than in the pictures and was really tidy. The property opens out on to a private patio area with seating, where you are close to ducks and chickens roaming around. Thank you again Emma!

  • A real home from home - as soon as we walked into the cosy Waggonette we felt welcome... the Christmas tree was twinkling, there were lights around the window and yummy home made cookies. Everything was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and it was lovely and warm. The view is great, and we saw red squirrels playing in the field behind the cottage. We are walking the Coast to Coast over weekends and this was a good stopping point for the next part of our walk. Everything has been thought of here, and we would thoroughly recommend a stay - it was wonderful for a few days away from it all at Christmas!

  • Paul and Tracy are fantastic hosts. All the information we received was accurate. The heating was on when we arrived, Paul met us, showed us around and explained everything. He left us a lovely welcome pack including bubbly and chocolates. Tracy arrived with a lemon drizzle cake for us (gorgeous!) and she even brought treats for our dog (Smuggie says thanks). The house was spotless, everything was as described / expected. The house was really cosy albeit very spacious. The master bedroom is incredible and has SKY TV. There is freeview / smart TV downstairs. The house is right in the town with great shops and pubs within walking distance. We will definitely be back, thanks Paul and Tracy.

  • Paul and Tracy were fantastic hosts from the welcoming emails after booking, through to the unexpected delivery of Tracy's great lemon drizzle cake, we loved staying at the Old Gallery. Whilst the weather was terrible, it didn't matter because the place is so cosy-helped by the great log fire.

  • Paul and Tracy are amazing and welcoming hosts who made our stay more than anything we expected for a last min birthday trip. The location of this gorgeous cottage is perfect for exploring both Yorkshire dales and the North Pennines. When we got to the Old Gallery we were welcomed by Paul, who showed us around and had a warm fire ready for us when we arrived from Brighton. We were enchanted by the gorgeous rustic decor and felt right at home right away! We got a lovely welcome hamper with a birthday card for my partner and later surprised by a delicious home made cake by Tracy! COULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH! Thank you again for everything! We stayed over the Christmas period and it was wonderful to see the Gallery decorated with festive touches. Paul was excellent with communication and greeted us on arrival. There was a welcome hamper which was greatly appreciated. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who is wanting a country escape. Thanks Paul and Tracy! We hope to be back in the future.

Leisure Cottage is a charming, two bedroom, stone built cottage in the heart of Kirkby Stephen. It sleeps 4 comfortably with the option of a pull out bed which sleeps a further two. There is off street parking, open gas fire, modern bathroom with underfloor heating and a downstairs cloakroom. There is a small outside seating and a raised garden with lovely views. Leisure Cottage is situated 50 metres from the River Eden and 200 metres from the high street with its popular cafes, pubs and shops
There is a secure dry shed for storage of bulky items and a mountain bike which you are welcome to use at your own risk
Leisure Cottage is situated on a quiet road leading down to the River Eden so there is no through traffic. It is literally a stones throw from the river where our children spent many happy days feeding the ducks, skimming stones and getting wet .There are numerous walks ranging from gentle strolls to thigh burning climbs all without the need to drive. If you have transport there is Tan Hill inn the highest pub in England about a 20 min drive away and the Mallerstang Valley about ten minutes drive .If you are interested in wild life we have seen pheasant, grouse ,deer, hare, eagles, ptarmigan and red squirrels on our walks. In fact we believe there is a red squirrel family nesting near by as they are often seen running along the stone wall opposite the cottage. You may also see the large African parrots . Scarlett Macaws that frequent Kirkby Stephen .They roost nearby at the late John Strutts home but are often seen flying around particularly near the river The parish church is also well worth visiting, it is called the Cathedral of the Dales and parts of the structure date back to Norman times it’s a particularly impressive church for the size of the town . The cloisters are also an interesting historical feature. Kirkby Stephen is well served with eating and drinking establishments it is after all still a working market town with weekly livestock auctions , a real experience if you’ve never been to one !
  • Fantastic cottage with parking right outside the house. Great space and good location - only a couple of minutes walk right into the middle of Kirkby Stephen. Would definitely come back again.

  • We had a great stay at leisure cottage for a last minute trip to the countryside. The location was fantastic right by a river or a few steps to town. Brendan also recommended some great walks nearby. The cottage was a good size and it was a nice touch having underfloor heating in the bathroom as the weather was so cold!! We also liked having the choice of a bath or a separate shower. Thank-you for for the small touches and treats we really appreciated it after a long drive. I’d recommend leisure cottage for a a peaceful getaway in a lovely market town.

  • A well proportioned house which was peaceful and quiet as well as being very close to the heart of the town and easy access to good roads. I'd thoroughly recommend this cottage in a great location.

  • I can’t EVER remember a time where I’ve rented a place that genuinely felt so much like home! This is a real Victorian gem nestled in a quintessentially English village steeped in history! Arriving in the dark, we struggled to find the property at first, but Selina and Dominic were absolutely brilliant at guiding us in and even met us at the door with the key! We arrived to a warm, inviting home that was fully equipped with all mod cons including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. And the free WiFi gave a great signal throughout the whole house. There was only myself, my husband, our 8yr old son and our tiny cavapoochon on our little Twixmas break, so we had ample space - but the house would cozily accommodate up to 6 people. The open fire was amazing and the little touches provided were much appreciated. The bed in the master bedroom was especially luxurious - so much so that I didn’t want to get out of it in the mornings!! As other visitors have mentioned, there were a couple of bits that needed repair, but given that this place is generally booked up, I can well imagine that finding the time to do these little jobs is a challenge in itself!! As side note, it’s great to see that the homeowners are keen on supporting local cottage industries too, with some of their toiletries and furnishings coming from local sources! A big tick from us ✅ All in all a terrific little find that we’d love to return to sometime very soon.

  • The house is really beautiful and it was a perfect place to host our Christmas Day, well stocked with cutlery, pans etc, and it was really clean. The location is beautiful, we did a lovely walk on Boxing Day to Smardale Gill viaduct which I would highly recommend and as others have said, the Black Swan pub is great, we did a Christmas Eve pub quiz which was fun. My only comment to the hosts would be that it might be worth looking at the taps in the house as a few of them felt a little lose. But overall, a really lovely house and I would recommend staying there

    Mandy2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice house Perfect location High quality fittings and furnishings Lovely to have a functioning log burner Would recommend to couples and families looking for a quiet couple of days in the Lakes

    Nick2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cosy cottage in a great location. Even though the weather was not very seasonal we had a great stay, enjoying the Settle to Carlisle railway line from Kirkby Stephen station just a short drive away. The Black Swan (50m down the road) served a delicious Sunday roast, too. We saw red squirrels and lots of butterflies on a nearby nature reserve. Cottage kitchen is very well equipped and the beds comfortable, too.

  • My family and I stayed for a week to visit the Lake District. The house was clean and cosy and was perfect for our purposes. The communication was quick and easy. Thank you!!

  • Angela was easy to communicate with and have clear directions. We really enjoyed our short stay.

    Lorna2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Angela was extremely hospitable and went out of her way to drop us at a wedding 10 mins away, when we couldn’t get a cab. She also made an incredible breakfast for us!

    Jeremy2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Angela was friendly and made us feel very welcome s. The room was really nice with en-suite. Breakfast was great and she even made us coffee for the journey.

    Julieta2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at Angela’s bnb. A really unique spot, and so quiet with beautiful views. It was lovely to see the sheep and meet one of the sheepdogs. The breakfast in the morning was delicious, and Angela was super helpful and attentive throughout our stay. Would definitely visit again.

  • Angela is a first class lady who is an amazing host full of local knowledge and really makes you feel like it is you Home for the time you are there. The rooms were spotless with a really powerful shower which after a day walking the fells is a great addition. Breakfast was superb with plenty to eat and great coffee.

    Saul2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • This bnb certainly was higher than our expectations. We usually just look for a base, which we did get ... and a perfectly located one with a lot more to offer! However, we were also treated like part of the family (including our pooch). There were many plus points inc: - being lucky enough to be there when other nice / interesting guests were also staying - tour of the baby lambs - extra effort to source last minute quorn sausages for me - lots of advice for local attractions etc. - offered to be taxied around locally We would highly recommend. We never go to the same place twice .. but there might be a first this time :-)

House is spotless, cosy and spacious with everything you need and more. Fun for adults and children. Definitely recommend!

Fire in the lounge was delightful and the whole house was cosy and warm. Parking is a little tricky for larger cars but otherwise a fantastic place to stay.

    Jayaraj2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my wife stayed here for our one year wedding anniversary and we had a great stay. Unfortunately for us it rained but had it have been a good day the space they have created around the campsite is lovey. Inside the yurt is surprisingly spacious with everything you need to have a cozy evening. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only downside is that its quite expensive but you pay for what you get and what you get is excellent.

    Joe2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful setting, and the most comfortable glamping experience I’ve had. Delicious food and drinks, and fantastic service. The staff were really helpful and the whole process from booking through to check out ran like clockwork. We went for an overnight get away and feel like I’ve had weeks holiday. We will definitely be returning.

    Sarah2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t have found anywhere better, best place we have stayed without a doubt, staff are lovely not to mention the food we had here was brilliant. Great for a wee romantic break!

    Emma2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • A real hidden gem, very well thought out. The food at the pub was excellent and the breakfast was the best i've ever experienced at a hotel. I would love to take friends next time. My one bug bear was the loo and shower being quite a walk away. I imagine that if there were other people staying in the tents they could get a little annoying as there are only 1 of each. We were very impressed with the bell tent and the fire kept the tent warm throughout the night.

    Ashleigh2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • The food in the pub was amazing, we ate both breakfast and dinner and it was delicious (especially the salted caramel espresso martini, which topped it off perfectly!) The staff were very helpful and the tent itself was great. The lighting over the bridge and inside looked lovely. We even made ourselves a coffee in the morning (granted our fire tending skills leave something to be desired!) over all a different experience which I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try camping but it in a slightly more sophisticated way!

    Louise2019-06-23T00:00:00Z

  • Such a stunning location. The property has great views and feels very comfortable. It is set out in a querky way with the living area upstairs to take the best advantage of the views. Two of the bedrooms open out onto the back garden and the kitchen also accesses the back. The village is lovely and I would recommend a visit to the Black Swan for food.

  • Quirky property with all the comforts required. Loved the back garden & view of the surrounding hills.

    Merril2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful & most relaxed experience. we were awestruck with the scenic & beautiful location of the property. And state of property was second to none. My kids were even happy to stay inside the property for entire duration of our trip. They did not want to leave at all. The place had everything one can imagine at a luxury accommodation, with all the essential amenities. We are definitely coming back here. there is no TV in there. which is an individual preference. I personally liked the fact that there was none. And to my surprise, kids (6 & 10 year old) didn't even miss it once.

  • Clare’s place was an absolute joy to stay at, the location was perfect and the area was lovely, quiet and peaceful, the people around are very friendly. • Stunning backdrops to a large, warm and welcoming home. Stayed as a group of 6 during a stormy, windy week and felt blessed to have a perfect, cosy space to get back to after wild walks (and a great shower!). We cooked every night and found the house accommodated our every need (not to mention generous hosts that brought round Scrabble in the rain). A wonderful countryside retreat, highly recommend.

  • Great location, feels like you are away from everything but actually very close to local towns. Can do walks from the house without getting in the car. Cosy and warm barn conversion with nice view from dining area window.

  • What a wonderful long weekend! The perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of life! Vicki & Tom were fantastic hosts, very responsive on AirBnb and even greeted us and waved us off in person. We loved the remoteness of the home, especially the dark skies! We all saw shooting stars which was very magical indeed. The local village, Kirby Stephen, was very close by and had everything you needed. However we also drove to Windermere for the day which wasn’t a bad drive at all. I do recommend taking a car here if you do want to do some exploring further afield, although there is no need to if you don’t wish to! The house was exceptionally clean, the beds were very comfy and there was everything and more that we needed! We loved the hens and geese outside too, they were very cute! Thank you for a wonderful stay! Highly recommend!

    Hannah2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a friendly welcome, a remote and warm, stylish place to stay, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Hayloft. We went in November and the underfloor heating was brilliant! You really feel "away from it all" as the place really is at the end of a long road. Everythingwas fabulous, including the comfy beds, and it was lovely to have had some homemade things like a brownie and elderflower cordial awaiting our arrival. Vicki and Tom couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. I'd definitely stay again!

  • A lovely homely place to stay. The twin room is a little small and the beds are tiny in that room but that's to be expected for a mobile home so it's not a big problem. Overall the space is lovely, easy to find with the instructions and a lovely peaceful location. We had an issue with the cooker which Wendy sorted straight away. • The perfect setting and location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and Lakes. Lovely clean cabin with all the facilities you could wish for. White Scar caves were a particular favourite for the family...especially with a little rain in the air! Too much to try and pack into a few days, so we will be back. Thank you Wendy

  • Excellent property. A rural retreat. Stayed with my boyfriend and 14 month old baby. Everything was so modern and the property felt like it had been recently refurbished. On a quiet plot where you are left to chill out. Had a fantastic time!

The Cottage is situated in the quaint, rural hamlet of Hartley, just 3/4 mile walk from the popular Cumbrian town of Kirkby Stephen. This is a delightful, charming barn conversion. Both spacious, yet cosy. There is private parking at the front of The Cottage for up to 3 cars. Ideal for couples or families. Dog friendly.
The Cottage accommodates 4 people comfortably with two bedrooms and there is a double sofa bed in the living room should you need extra sleeping space. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome. We would love to know their names! The living room boasts a log burning fire, some logs will be provided and you can purchase some more from the village. The rear of the cottage looks out over the private, enclosed, terraced garden that is accessed by the back door. The dining area seats 6 and looks out over the rear garden. There is a well equipped kitchen and a downstairs cloakroom/toilet. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bath. We have indicated this cottage as not suitable for 0-2 years, this is due to there being no stair gates and there is no extra guard to the fire (other than its door). Your infants are welcome as long as you understand this risk. A travel cot can be provided if required and a high chair on request. Small person cutlery is provided in the kitchen. Treat yourself to a digital detox as there is no Wi-Fi here at The Cottage. The phone signal is good and you can get 4G in some parts of the house if you need a fix. Free Wi-Fi is available at some coffee shops in Kirkby Stephen. Hartley has an abundance of red squirrels, pheasants and small birds that are often found passing through the back garden of the cottage. Look out for the parrots!
A short walk away is Kirkby Stephen, a traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops. It is on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line. There is a heritage/information centre, café's, pubs, eateries, bakery and a superb Indian restaurant! Attracts both walkers and cyclists alike. Situated on the Wainwright’s coast to coast path with walks from the cottage ranging from quiet riverside walks and walks along the railway lines to fells including Eden viaducts footpath, the Poetry trail, Howgills and Dales, Hartley fell and the Nine Standards, Smardalegill Viaduct and Great Asby Scar. For cyclists, Kirkby Stephen is on the W2W (Walney to Wear) coast to coast route and the Lakes and Dales Loop nearby. There is electric bike hire in Hartley and a bike shop/bike repair in Kirkby Stephen. For those that are looking for heritage and culture, there are the castles at Brough and Pendragon and there are nearby villages of Winton, Nateby, Soulby, Ravenstonedale and Newbiggin-on-Lune - some within walking distance.
  • Juliette's cottage is beautiful and so homely. It is perfectly situated for a break from everyday life, and an easy 20 minute walk to kirkby Stephen for the restaurants and pubs. The eggs and milk left were so thoughtful and the house was warm and comfortable. Thankyou for a wonderful stay - we will be back

  • What a little gem this cottage is, sparkling clean, superb location, extremely quiet and only about a 10 minute walk to Kirkby Stephen. We were so comfortable there, great storage heating meant the cottage was super toasty all day and evening, much needed as it was cold and snowy outside. Juliette has thought of everything to make your stay a home from home, she even left dog biscuits for Bella, nuts so we could feed the red squirrel and seed to feed the birds! We were luckily enough on our last morning to see the red squirrel, super cute! Can't recommend this place enough. Thanks so much!

    Jayne2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fab few days at the cottage just after New Year. What a great place to explore some fantastic walks to blow away the cobwebs. The cottage is really homely and peaceful as well as being spotlessly clean. We played games and read books and just chilled by the fire most evenings. Juliette also helped us out when we left a few things behind, a really great host.

    Rachel2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was spacious, spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming. It is a perfect place to recharge the batteries. I would highly recommend a stay here. Excellent communication from Juliette. A proper little gem. Thank you.

  • This is a perfectly peaceful, superbly equipped cottage tucked away in a small hamlet next to a bubbling stream... and only a 5 minute walk from the main town

    Peter2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Really excellent little place - everything you could want in a holiday cottage. Juliette could not have been more helpful, and the little touches and free things were lovely and much appreciated. We look forward to going back.

Brackenber Barn is a luxury section of an old Cumbrian hill top farm, built in 1752. It has 2 bedrooms, a shower room, a cinema room with a 65” TV and an oak frame conservatory, heated by a log burner, from which you can step into the lovely garden and enjoy excellent scenery. The kitchen is small but has hobs, oven/microwave & coffee machine. We are in the Westmorland Dales, between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. It’s the ideal location for cycling, walking, photography and wildlife watching.
Brackenber Barn is a luxury private section of an old hill top farm built in 1752. You can park outside your door and enter via the oak framed conservatory/kitchenette which has a cosy log burner in the corner, a table and some comfy chairs. Then you have a private shower room and WC. Next is your own Cinema Room with a film library and 65inch 4k tv with surround sound. Then a hallway with a comfy reading chair leading to a double bedroom and also a twin bedroom. Both have windows, wooden beamed ceilings, reading lights and a vanity unit with a sink and mirror. The accommodation also has a Nespresso coffee machine with a milk frother, a fancy microwave that is also an oven and grill but its small, a 4 point induction hob, kettle, toaster, fridge, a cosy log burner, a bluetooth speaker and some OK WiFi but it’s not super fast! The kitchen/dining area is quite compact but very cosy and lovely in the summer when you can open the double doors and walk directly into the lovely garden. The Cinema Room has a Sony PS3 with a limited selection of games and an electric drum machine - fun for kids! Also a DVD player and a film library including hi-res Blu-ray DVD’s to choose from, free of charge. It’s a really funky dark room with a heater and black leather sofa. The cinema surround sound is amazing but no WiFi in here. Please always supervise children near the pond.

Welcome to my home: a spacious, modern house in a quiet residential street just a minute's walk from Market Sq. Comfortable and nicely furnished, it's good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. I also have an en-suite double room listed: www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/10759053
An airy, twin room with TV, drawers and hanging space for clothes. Cross the road from the house and pass through to Kirkby Stephen's main street for pubs, cafes & shops, a little art / culture, a small supermarket. But really you’re in the countryside: the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales National Park are just minutes away on foot, as is the River Eden.
  • Very clean and tidy. Ideally situated in Kirkby Stephen being just a couple of minutes walk to town centre.

  • When you stay at Tom's house you will get an informative, relaxed and helpful host in a clean, tidy and warm house. Access to a large kitchen, living room and bathroom. The town could not be more conveniently located for getting either a take away or a meal in one of the pubs, all a short walk away. It is also a real pretty town with many other interesting shops etc

    Lisa2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Tom was incredibly friendly and helpful with his responses. His place was clean and well situated in the centre of town, with easy parking. We ended up having the whole house to ourselves as he was away for the weekend and the other room wasn’t booked, which was a real bonus!

    Louis2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Tom was an amazing host. Great food & conversation. Warm, comfortable living space and a spacious, clean bathroom. Perfect centralized location to stroll around the town. Thanks for hosting!

  • My son and I had a great stay at Tom’s place in Kirkby Stephen.Tom was away for the weekend but he left clear instructions as to how to find and get into the house. We were able to use his kitchen and dining area and being keen walkers there was plenty of useful information on local walks if we had needed it. We, however, were on a mission to climb the four 2,000 ft hills in the Warcop military area ( just up the road in the Northern Pennines AONB) which is only open to the public on a few Sundays in the year. This is an excellent location for exploring the Dales, Pennines and Eastern fringes of the Lakes. The house was spotlessly clean and tidy and we had use of the bathroom next to the bedroom. Another couple arrived after us and occupied the top floor double bedroom. We enjoyed breakfast with them and had a lot in common. We highly recommend this lovely house to others.

    Mike2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tom is a great host with excellent communication and a lovely house which is fully equipped and well located.

    Jamie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great and very relaxed stay at Tom's place. Easy access via keybox (although Tom was just leaving as I arrived). Nice room, great facilities and great communications! Great location for access to the Lakes. Made even better by us realising we'd meet before! Thank you for a lovely weekend!

  • Tom is a very welcoming and relaxed host. We turned up pretty wet with muddy boots but was t an issue. Pot of tea on arrival w6a massively welcome. Chat around the table was fun as well. We had twin room with shared bathroom. All very clean and tidy. Tom was very easygoing and left us to help ourselves to breakfast and tea and leave when we were ready. Highly recommended

  • We were really impressed with Gars cottage. Margaret was a very friendly host, and was very generous leaving the kitchen stocked with wine, juice, fruit, biscuits and fresh eggs from her hens (and even a box of chocolates when one of our party had a birthday). The cottage exceeded our expectations - the heated stone floors made the whole place very cosy, and everything was finished to a very high standard with everything we needed. The cottage is easy to get to from the M6 but feels very remote with open views. If you're lucky enough to be there on a cloudless night the stars are amazing. There's easy access to both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes with Penrith and Kendal both being a 20-30min drive. We packed in visits to Kirkby Stephen/ Brough Castle, Ullswater & Aira Force, Sizergh Castle and the local nature reserve at Smardale Gill during a 4-day stay. Can't thank Margaret highly enough for hospitality and will gladly recommend this place to others. Hope to visit again.

  • This is an amazing place to stay. Everything you could possibly need is provided by a great host who is always happy to help. The views are stunning and it’s such a peaceful location. Lovely to look out the window at night and see the stars with no streetlights etc to spoil the view.

The house is a working sheep farm, set between the stunning Howgill Fells in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District in Cumbria. The rooms are beautifully appointed, all with en-suite shower rooms, tea and coffee making facilities and free wi-fi.
On the fringe of the pretty, unspoilt village of Ravenstonedale, High Greenside Bed and Breakfast lies between the Lake District in Cumbria and at the foot of the Howgill Fells in the Yorkshire Dales. Just 5 miles from Kirkby Stephen , which is on the popular 'Coast to Coast' walk or the Dales High Way, and 7 miles to the M6 (J38) and therefore easy to find. The location makes it a superb base from which to explore both the Lakes and the Dales. Smardale Gill Nature Reserve, fishing, bird watching, horse riding, golfing and cycle hire are all within easy reach of the farm.
  • Me and my partner stayed at Angela's for a weekend and we had a brilliant time - Angela was very welcoming and even let us check in when we arrived earlier than the satnav predicted, which was really helpful. The views are cracking and the farm is perfectly located for walking and enjoying the countryside. We also thought it was great value considering Angela includes a lovely cooked breakfast in the price of your stay. Absolutely would stay again!

  • We found Emma’s place when searching for somewhere to escape from it all after Christmas/ New Year. So glad we did. The Mallerstang valley is such an amazing unspoiled part of the world. We went for a lovely walk from the doorstep and hardly saw another soul all day and saw a ton of wildlife including red squirrels - one right outside our door. Even though you feel away from it all the town of Kirby Stephen is within easy reach and looked lovely although we didn’t venture there, only being there two nights and arriving late on the first. The apartment itself it fantastic, much roomier than it looks on the pictures and with everything you need. Really comfy bed, great fluffy towels etc. We used the OS nap provided to plot ourselves a great route for a walk. Lots of helpful tips in the information and discount at ‘The Fat Lamb’ where we ate which was very nice. All in all a great trip.

  • Accommodation was very good - plenty of space, very comfortable and very clean. The pictures don't do it justice and it surpassed our expectations.

  • Absolute peace in the Yorkshire Dales...in Cumbria!

    Monty2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful holiday home which we cannot recommend highly enough. Central to the Lakes and Dales alike or just wonderful walks on your doorstep. Breakfast with the red squirrel was a delight as was Emma's homemade. Black Swan at Ravenstondale does a wonderful Sunday lunch. Thank you Emma and Martin

  • What can I say but what an amazing location and place to stay.... great base for our brief exploration of the Dales.... we'll be back

    Neil2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy place to stay whilst exploring the Dales. Emma gave us all the info we needed on local walks and the accommodation was very warm - meaning we could enjoy the snow on our walk knowing we’d be warm and dry afterwards. The homemade ginger cake we were given on arrival was a very nice touch too! We really enjoyed our stay in the Stables and would highly recommend.

    Fran2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding location very envious of Emma. Superb views of the fells. Wildlife in abundance right on the doorstep. Warm and comfortable downstairs flat with everything you need. Excellent amenities inside with full kitchen Extremely comfortable king size bed We didn’t want to get up in the morning. Airing cupboard ideal for hanging clothes to air after a good long walk. Or to dry out those boots. This is the second time we have stopped at a place and used the drawers provided showing our confidence in Emma’s spotless place to make yourself comfortable. Extremely quiet and rural. Just how we like it ideal for a couple looking to relax and walk around the surrounding area known for its outstanding natural beauty. Emma was very pleasant and couldn’t do enough for us to make our stay perfect. Thank you Emma. Andy and Karen
