Enjoy unique handmade furniture, art and original ideas Enjoy the relaxing fresh air and cool weather of the South Coast. Please be aware that the closest shops and fuel are in Mt Barker or Albany.
The studio space is very private and fully self contained and has been furnished by Blackstone Furniture, it is very unique and rustic . From the hand made timber bed to the large tree trunk verandah area, you will love the country feel of this working farm. See the cattle, horses and free range chickens from the comfort of the outdoor sitting area and expect the occasional visit from our 2 dogs. The farm is very central, only a short drive to Albany, Denmark or Mt Barker, visit the Porongerup ranges or the local wineries. Unfortunately there is no wifi and limited mobile phone coverage.

Onegum Bed and Breakfast is an ideal country escape located near the Stirling Ranges in Kendenup, Western Australia. The bed and breakfast is a historic train carriage that has been lovingly restored to pay respect to it's rich heritage but to also have all the creature comforts to make your stay relaxing and idyllic. Onegum is also a family friendly farm where you can collect eggs for breakfast, pet the chickens or hang out with some friendly llamas.
Kendenup is a small town located underneath the Stirling Ranges in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. It is perfectly positioned for you to enjoy everything the Great Southern has to offer: award winning wineries, wholesome country eateries and unique bushwalking experiences in the Stirling Ranges and Porongurups.
  • We had an excellent time, and have to give an extra loud shout out to the amazing hospitality and welcome. When we were first shown around the very cool converted rail car we were given a loaf of fresh local sourdough bread, bacon from the local butcher, eggs from their chickens (which you can see in an orchard literally two metres from the carriage!!), home made lamington slice and a beautiful bottle of wine! We sat on the front porch drinking the wine looking over the ranges in the distance. There was also home made muesli with home made berry coulis and milk and orange juice provided. The carriage was sparkling clean and the bed was so so comfy. We’ll definitely be staying here again and making more time to explore the property and meet the animals!

    Annabeth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Carriage was absolutely fantastic! Impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. Lots of extra touches to make our stay special with tasty food & even a bottle of wine! We loved the chooks watching us cooking through the kitchen windows (they knew where the scraps were coming from). The views towards the Stirling Ranges made the verandah a wonderful place to sit in the afternoon, before retiring into the cozy carriage. The location was a fantastic kick off point for hiking in the Porongurups & Stirling Ranges. I would 100% stay here again. I can’t recommend this AirBnB more highly.

    Melissa2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique place with lots of creature comforts. The host went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

    Natasha2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely place to visit. Hosts go the extra steps to make you feel welcome. Lovely olive oil. Character features abound. Special food treats for breakfast lunch and dinner if you want. Our second visit. You wont be disappointed.

    Kim2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is simple stunning, so different from everything else. It is remote, true; but you really relax and disconnect with the busy life each other have. The carriage is very comfortable and well equiped. Anything you need! Also, Lachlan has been above anything we could have expect by providing eggs from the farm, bacon, homemade jam. We arrived late and he even prepare everything so we could have a self check-in. We fully Recommend!!

    Cécile2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for something in the area this is a great place! Old train that is made into a very comfortable B&b. Great views, nice animals around and nice local products for breakfast. Friendly welcome. A pity we could only stay for one night. Highly recommended!

    Kim2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous unique experience to stay in a beautifully restored railway carriage. It is authentic but has all the mod cons making our stay one to remember. The hospitality is amazing. Homemade granola, with yogurt and fruit coulis , accompanied by fresh sourdough and bacon and eggs made for a breakfast treat. The beds were super comfortable and the view amazing. The kids enjoyed interacting with the Emus and Llamas. It was certainly a stay to remember. Thank you Lachlan and Stuart.

Come to Thorn's Mountain Retreats and immerse yourself in the ancient granite peaks and majestic forest of the Porongurup Range. Here you are free to roam, play, explore, relax and rejuvenate in the wonders of nature. With the forest and peaks of the National Park next door to the Mountain View Cottage it gives you direct access to the most incredible hidden treasures. We would love you to experience this with us so you can take with you inspiring memories of a special time in a special place.
Our cottage is in a beautiful location looking out to the Stirling Ranges and next to the Porongurup National Park. It has a country cottage feel and is ideal for couples or families.
Our family has been in the Porongurup for over 70 years and this beautiful location never ceases to inspire us. The landscape is warm, inviting, safe, quiet, and inspiring, where you can immerse yourself in nature. You will feel immediately relaxed, hearing the birds flittering around and the wind in the trees. Then you gaze across the plain to the Stirling Ranges. It really is a Mountain Retreat.
  • Lovely we cottage up in the hills. Stunning views, with great access to walks right on the door step. Hosts were superb and couldn’t be more helpful. Highly recommended if you like a bit of peace and quiet with some outdoor adventure.

  • Wonderful cabin with lots of character! Location is absolutely perfect for exploring the area and you def won’t run out of things to do over a couple of days! Mike and Peter made us feel very welcome and we loved getting to know and see the area through their experiences and recommendations.

  • Wonderful spot. Lovely hosts - really appreciated talking to them and all the information they provided. Had a wonderful walk from the property. Relaxing, enjoying nature and the views - a great escape. Many thanks

  • My family absolutely loved staying here! Mike was very responsive to any communication & provided very useful information about utilising the property & surrounds. He & Peter went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It’s so peaceful and relaxing, sitting on the verandah enjoying the view was beautiful. We loved being able to walk around the property & head straight into the National Park. Awesome! Highly recommend, we will be back!

    Kristy2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! All I can say is if you are looking for an outstanding location and hospitality this is the place to go. The accommodation is truly lovely and has everything you need and more but the location is awesome. A true Aussie experience without leaving the property grounds. Kangaroos in the paddock, trail bush walks to a fantastic viewpoint, wine tasting twinned with the knowledge of Peter (a true gentlemen) what more could you ask. If you can drag yourself away there is the granite skywalk 3 km away and the best beaches I have ever seen with the clearest waters around two peoples bay and Bettys bay, ask Mike the best places to go. We ran out of time on our4 night stay to see more of the area so suggest to stay as long as you can ideally a week you will not be disappointed. Just book it!

    Tracy2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Mike and Peter were great, communicative hosts with plenty of information about how best to enjoy their large property, nestled among the Porongorups. The location was perfect – close to all the local attractions, and very scenic and tranquil.

  • We stayed in the queen room which was generously sized and presented neat and tidy. Our hosts were wonderful in checking that we had everything we needed, and also shared tips of the things to do around the area. There is a hill just behind the home which provides wonderful panoramic views of the Stirling ranges and was a wonderful walk.

  • Great views of the Stirling Ranges and quiet nights.

    Mungo2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible hospitality: real coffee in the morning and she even packed us some muffins for our hike! The room was cozy, comfortable and very big with a spanky new bathroom. It was super quiet and there were great views and fabulous birds. I hadnt realized that the Caber House is actually a little cafe as well so we had full use of the deck after all the guests had left. The pictures do not do it justice: the room is bright and cozy. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

    Katja2018-12-16T00:00:00Z

Off-grid passive solar strawbale eco-farmhouse featured in The Owner Builder, naturally cool in summer and warm in winter. Many recycled materials in the house fittings and furnishings. Waterless composting toilets return all nutrients to fruit trees. 50 hectare on-farm nature reserve bursting with wildflowers. Sustainable agriculture farm with shelter belts, tree fodder, permaculture garden, bees, wildlife and friendly donkeys. Learn how to build, farm and live with a lower footprint.
Guest room with queen bed; suit couple, close friends or singles. The Bush Room is a cosy room with a rustic timber feature wall, looking out on a garden backed by nature reserve. Also available on a separate listing is the Front Guest Room, which has a view of farmland and hills. (if you're travelling with friends, you can book both and house 4). Hear native birdsong in the mornings, and frog calls at night. Magnificent clear views of the night sky because far from light pollution. Bushwalk in a world biodiversity hotspot; beautiful private nature reserve right behind the house and National Parks nearby. Option to eat with the family and sample our organically grown farm produce. Cuddle friendly donkeys.
Our farm is in a peaceful, secluded agricultural area in the Albany hinterland, 25 minutes from town on sealed roads. This is a place for retreating from civilisation, but still close to everything offered by our lovely regional centre. The rural towns of Mt Barker and Denmark are within 30 minutes of our farm as well, so you can easily explore all three . We also highly recommend visiting our two main mountain ranges in the Porongurup National Park 40 minutes away, and the Stirling Range National Park 1 hour from us, as well as the magnificent coastline studded with National Parks, icing sugar beaches and towering cliffs on the Southern Ocean.
  • Absolutely the best 5 days of relaxing, chatting, learning, reading (entire wall of books to choose from), nature walks/treks, fresh air, beautiful friendly animals (miss the donkeys hee-haw, the curious cows, stunning horses - thank you Smarti for taking me on a ride!, Jess the energetic balloon-obsessed dog). Sue and Brett were amazingly kind and generous hosts. They filled the other two guests and myself with lots of delicious tea/coffee (hands down the best chai tea and coffee), fresh farm produce and delicious cooking! I really enjoyed listening to the topics Sue and Brett shared with us. The straw-bale house is super cosy. Very interesting to read and listen to how much effort went into building this gorgeous house! Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us, and thank you for making my 30th birthday such a blast! I hope to see you all and the animals soon!

  • What a marvellous experience on Sue and Bretts farm and very comfortable stay in their hand built eco home. We will def be back!

    Sarah-Lee2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Sue’s place exceeded our expectations. The house was immaculate and so interesting to understand how it was constructed. The thick straw bale walls provides great ambiance and the whole house feels like a warm comforting hug. There are lovely walks on the property and Sue’s fridge was always full of yummy food most of which is grown in the garden. A wonderful experience and we hope to be back soon.

  • A little away from the city, I spent an unforgettable time with the farm animals in a nice home built by my host couple. Evening and breakfast was very nice made by the owner. This is a great opportunity to experience Australian homes and farms. And you will be satisfied with the hospitality of the warm and affectionate couple. Strongly recommend.

  • This home is so unique. The architecture is incredible and manages to feel farm-stay and luxurious at the same time. Located between Albany and Denmark, we felt really close to nearby centres while enjoying the night on a peaceful and quiet property. Sue and Brett were very kind and welcoming. I would recommend this stay!

Fernbrook is a lovingly restored section of the Faulkner family's historic Bolganup Homestead. Bring your fine food, family or friends and sit out on the verandah overlooking kangaroos grazing, the orchard and the Porongurup Range. Situated in the heart of the Porongurup village, Bolganup is walking distance to the Porongurup Village Inn & Tearooms, Karri On Bar & Jingalla Wines. Just a short drive to the trail heads of the Porongurup Ranges, including Castle Rock Sky Walk, and wineries.
Great for families with space for the kids to run and to explore the gardens and the farm life. The games room has a big stone fireplace to sit on a winters night and enjoy a glass of wine and a game of table tennis or billiard. Also perfect for bush-walking or wine enthusiast groups. Or as a romantic getaway.
A tranquil country retreat where slow walks, country markets and long lunches are a delight.
  • Really nice place in a lovely quiet area. The wifi is terrible but the house fittings and facilities are brilliant. It’s great waking up in this part of the world and sitting on the beautiful verandah.

  • Beautiful location, kangaroos with joeys in the pouch, blue wrens on the porch. A good location for climbing Bluff Knoll(40 minute drive).

  • With family historical interests and natural beauty of WA this is the place to stay.

    Zoe2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so homely - Kathleen and Kinglsey are the sweetest hosts, have some great recommendations and have set up a gorgeous heritage style house for you to get lost in time in. We came down with a group of 6 - the beds were fantastic (nice and warm for freezing nights) and we had a good-old time playing board games and enjoying the fire. Genuinely the best country air-bnb I have been to so far in WA's South West!

'Marri' in the Porongurup, is a private home in a peaceful rural location, close to walking tracks, flora trails, winery's, Albany and the Sterling Range. We have a room available, with queen size bed and en-suite with a separate kitchenette / dining area attached. We can provide some food items for breakfast, if requested. The nearest Café, Bakery, Pub and Supermarket is 20klm away in Mt. Barker
We have a large peaceful block that has over 24 different species off birds that reside around here. On a clear night, the Milky Way can be observed in all it's glory. We are a Non Smoking household. We ask, that if you smoke, you do so outside and carefully dispose of the butt's. As this is a high fire risk area.
There is an abundance of vineyards, for tastings and a bite to eat. The local shop (groceries, coffee, snacks) is about 2Klm away. Castle Rock, Haywood & Nancy Peak and Devil's slide are all good walking tracks, that are just a short distance away.
  • Martyn and Sonja are very friendly hosts. The place is clean and comfortable. It’s close to the Porongurup National Park and other attractions. Will definitely return.

  • A quiet, peaceful place to stay with plenty of native wildlife on the doorstep. Close to the Porongurup and Stirling Range walking trails with boutique wineries close by. Martyn was a great host with his tips on walking trails.

  • Comfortable room and bathroom close to walks and wineries of the region.

  • Martyn's place was a great place to stay in Porongurup. We enjoyed sitting on the deck listening to the bird song and seeing kangaroos hopping by just outside in the evening. The unit is attached to the main house but feels private. It is immaculately clean and well presented with everything new. The bed is super comfy with nice linens and there is sufficient facilities to prepare a simple meal. Hiking trails in the park including Granite Skyway are just a short drive way.

    Leah2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay, and very convenient for hiking in the Porongurup mountains and seeing the Granite Skywalk. The house is lovely and new and modern, sparkling clean, comfy beds, great shower, friendly hosts, milk and bread provided for breakfast, lots of kangaroos in the very large garden. We also travelled to the Sterling Range of mountains too for hiking. Lots of orchid hotspots nearby in spring. Lovely cafe just down the road. Perfect!

    Valerie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Mari in the Porongarups is an awesome place to stay. We were greeted by Martyn and a collection of kangaroos on the lawn. Martyn is a lovely fella who knows the local area very well and he is very keen for you to have the best time possible while staying there. The rooms are lovely and the shower wonderful. Some brekky supplies were greatly appreciated. Martyn has a great collection of maps and brochures to help you with your touristing. We made great use of them. One tip... be brave when you get to the end of the Granite Skywalk, go up the ladder to the most wonderful view. It's not that difficult. We are fairly unfit 55 year olds and we managed it.

  • A great place to say. Right across from the Porongerups, only 40 minutes from Albany, and down the road from Mt Barker makes it a great place to explore the region. The cottages are self contained, and have everything you need. Easy to find and comfortable. The rooms are well insulated so didn't need to turn the fans on despite going in summer. This Mount Barker house is a single storey residence in the Post-War International design style. This unique structure, which could be rotated through 180 degrees to exploit seasonal changes, was labelled “The Round House”.This very unique building is now being offered as a comfortable accommodation option within the grounds of the Mt Barker Caravan park. The rates quoted are for a couple using the same bedding please advise us for twin share or family's.
It was designed and built by engineer Hubertus Johannes Van der Kolk in c. 1956-58, as his family home. In the mid 1970s the place was refurbished and fixed in its position. Though the home had fallen into disrepair, it was heritage listed in 2005 and Heritage Minister Francis Logan said "It was an energy-efficient concept ahead of its time". Restoration works have now been completed on “The Round House” however the building is now static. The Heritage Council has published a detailed history of this "rare" building in a Register of Heritage Places - Assessment Document, State Heritage Documentation
  • Was great! Bigger and quieter than we expected - must be those round walls!

The house was delightful and quirky, warm with comfortable beds and plenty of parking space, living space and somewhere I would definitely recommend to people staying in Mount Barker.

Up the stairs to your room which has its own en-suite, charming country feel while the view from you bedroom window is worth waking up to. Across the vineyard to the Stirling Ranges. The birds and the sounds of the country will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed. We are however a working vineyard and harvesting does require midnight work. This is only once a year and if you think it might be a bother check with us first to be sure of a good nights sleep.
From here you can head out to Albany, Porongorups or Denmark. Bush walking, beaches and wineries.
Great walks in the area. Abundant bird life. Peaceful countryside.

  • Gaye and John (and their quiet but welcoming dog, Jackie) made us feel so at home in their private space - the rooms were lovely and cosy, the beds and pillows were fantastically comfortable and warm, and their verandah is the perfect place for a breakfast bbq - with a most relaxing view over their vineyard and towards the Ranges. Thank you so much for a wonderful, if brief, getaway in Kendenup!

    Michael2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gaye is a welcoming and friendly host. Her home is in a beautiful area and there are superb views of the Stirling Ranges from her front verandah. Our room was very clean, comfortable and private. It was also very quiet so we slept really well. Gaye went beyond expectations by providing lots of food for our breakfasts and we were able to use her lovely kitchen to cook our meals at night. She also provides a bbq and an outside fire for guests to use. Don't take any wine with you. Arcadia wines are fabulous! We loved our stay and hope to return again in the future.

  • This is a fantastic private cabin in the midst of a great and massively underrated region. Minutes away from multiple wineries, on the doorstep of incredible national parks and mountain ranges with gorgeous hikes and easy to get to from Perth, we loved our time in Porongorup. Peter and Maleeya looked after us really well, with a tidy, well appointed cabin overlooking the cow paddocks and the stunning Porongorups in the background. We even got to go out and meet some of the cows. Beautiful setting and very convenient location.

  • Peter and Maleeya are such amazing hosts and have such a lovely place!!! Highly recommended, especially for those who love nature! Thank you so much for everything!!! We will be back!

  • This is a great place to stay if you want to get away from it all. The cottage/studio has been furnished tatsefully and everything about it was at a high standard. Peter was extrememly helpful with places to walk and places to visit. The rural setting was peaceful and waking up to Highland cattle with Kangaroos across the field was special. I recommend this place highly and will visit again.

    Richard2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect spot for exploring Poronganup and the Stirling Ranges! Accommodation is immaculate, feels like an alpine chalet. Amazing views of the Porongurups and highland cows from the back window.

  • Peter & Maleeya's studio is a fascinating place to stay. Where else can you eat dinner with a grandstand view of ancient rock formations, kangaroos, Highland cattle and a host of different species of birds? Despite being in this beautiful rural location, the property has all mod cons. We found plenty of things to do: lunching in Mount Barker; walking to the highest point on Peter's farm for a view over the countryside; and doing the excellent Granite Skywalk at Castle Rock. Our only regret is not timing our visit for when Maleeya's Thai Cafe was open (the locals raved about it). The most interesting Airbnb we've ever stayed in.

    Chris2019-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • One of my favorite places I’ve stayed. A wonderful host - Peter and maleeya went above and beyond to make or stay splendid. I enjoyed my time there so much that I am trying to work out ways to return. Brilliant!

    Josh2018-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic three nights at Peter’s place. It was so peaceful and the setting was in the most beautiful grounds. Peter and Maleeya had added so many thoughtful extras to make us feel welcome. The location is just a short drive to the Porongurups and Mount Barker. Peter is highly knowledgeable about the area and can suggest lots of things to do and the best times to go on different walks. On site is also the superb Maleeya’s Thai Restaurant which we can heartily recommend - we went back twice.

  • Thanks for having us to stay. Extra time we will book the spa.

  • Sheryl and her husband were hospitable hosts and very interesting to talk to, especially about how they built the house. The room was clean and had nice touches like high quality shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc. Everything is well thought out, such as the heated blankets, DVD list, and homemade cookies. The morning breads are all homemade, too! There is plenty of parking. The home is about a 3-4 minute drive from the center of Mt. Barker town, if that. We wish we’d had another night to stay there. Very peaceful.

    Erika2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sheryl was delightful as was her property. Amazing hospitality and quality items in the room with the most comfortable bed. Shame we only stayed one night. Thanks Sheryl :)

  • A cute little b&b on the foot of the Porongurups with views to the Stirling ranges. It’s a perfect space and has so many thoughtful touches that make it stylish and homely. The hosts welcome you in and treated us to cake and coffee in the cafe. I’d happily recommend this place.

  • Doreen is a true Super-host of Airbnb. She aims to provide and please with generosity, effort and finishing touches. During our stay, our son got sick and on the off-chance we called Doreen who arrived with children Paracetamol in minutes. She followed up with text messages the next day to ensure he was ok. Incredible service. This place has a truly amazing view at the front that the photos dont do justice... a wonderful surprise!! Cant recommend this house enough for a proper getaway, relaxation and if you like cooking... an amazingly well stocked kitchen. Thanks so much Doreen! Highly recommend.

  • We had a lovely stay in Doreen's house. It is surrounded by a wonderful garden with plenty colourful flowers and a offers a great view. We spent a long weekend there as a group and really enjoyed having our 'own' place for those days while still being so close to Albany. Doreen has been a fantastic host. She responded to messages and emails really quickly and provided us with a lot of tips on where to eat in Albany, what's on in town, etc. We definitely recommend this accommodation.

  • Dear Joan & Jim, Thank you from all five of us for our lovely stay at Jilba Cottage; which was easy to find and the setting at the southern foothills of the Porongurup National Park absolutely delightful, with magnificent views, beautiful birdsong, and wildlife all around which, quite unexpectedly, surpassed all of our expectations and other planned activities in and around Albany, and was certainly the find of our trip. Joan welcomed us on our arrival and Jim visited next morning with a woolly pullover to combat the very slight evening chill for which my husband had not adequately packed, having arrived from the middle-east and fifty degree temperatures. Jim also managed to find a rather special computer cable to assist my daughter with connecting a mini-synthesizer to her computer, when she discovered that she had packed an incorrect cable. The cottage is well appointed with every amenity likely to be required and quite a few that most probably would not have thought of. The breakfast, fresh roses arrangements, nice touches around the kitchen, and whole set-up for the cottage made for a perfect stay for us. Notwithstanding the working farm environment which we loved, Jilba Cottage is a very private place to stay with the tranquillity of bird song all day and great views all the way to Albany. Access to the Porongurup National Park and its splendid trails and walks; local amenities and wineries could not be better; with access to Albany, Walpole and Denmark within easy striking distance for day trips. The local bar is very hospitable and the staff and locals very welcoming if you want human interaction. Thanks for all that you have done to make our stay memorable, above and beyond reasonable expectation, for which ten-out-of-ten probably doesn’t do adequate justice. Many thanks for everything. • I would highly recommend staying at Joan and Jim’s place. It is truly an incredible, beautiful and serene spot with so much to do around the area and Joan and Jim’s hospitality is second to none.

  • The house is in a gorgeous location with views down to Albany and up into Porongurup National Park. A comfortable stay with all you need. The breakfast provided is a lovely touch.

  • Our second stay at this wonderful place. Even though it was 2 years ago, the apartment was just as clean and well maintained as if no-one else had used it in between! Loved just relaxing on the deck with the birds all around the garden, but there is plenty to do locally, if you have never visited before. Jim and Joan are wonderful hosts and are great ambassadors for the Porongurups and beyond.

    Cathy2019-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • You'll love this place.

    Erle2019-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely, spacious home away from home. We were pleasantly surprised with the amazing location. Backs up to the national park with plenty of trails, beautiful fields with livestock, kangaroos, and birds of such amazing colors and variety. Wineries were close by and facilities were great for cooking and hanging out. Hosts were so helpful and made the stay even better. We look forward to visiting again.

Off-grid eco house set in 100 acres, 75% natural bush, 25% paddocks and dam. Detox from city life, throw away technology and reconnect with family, friends and nature. Find peace in natural bush setting. Large open-plan house perfect for family get-togethers - 5 bedrooms, huge bathroom, composting toilet. Kangaroos early & twilight, abundant wildflowers Aug - Oct, winter creek. Wood fire, rainwater, solar technology. 1 hour to Bluff Knoll, Albany and Denmark.
This is a place to reconnect with nature or with people. It is off the beaten track, 14 kms from Kendenup, the nearest small town, and 28km from Mount Barker, so you will need to bring all food and necessities with you, or be prepared for a car trip to buy things. The solar array provides power to run everything a normal household would need, just don't run the air conditioners at night when the sun isn't shining! The rainwater is precious. You should have plenty, but be mindful of long showers. There is satellite wifi but mobile reception is poor - anything other than Telstra will probably struggle. We think that this is a good thing...it can take a while to get used to, but enjoy your surroundings. For chilly nights there is a wood fire which does a great job of keeping things warm. No conventional heating, though.
This is a unique experience, and works best if you are simply enjoying the space, rather than rushing around too much. Magnificent views of the Stirling Ranges, which are on your doorstep, and the Porongorups are not far away for those that would like a gentle climb in denser vegetation. The beaches of Albany are within an hour, as are the tall trees of Denmark.
